ID on contaminant in MEA petri?
    #26976283 - 10/08/20 11:23 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I was wondering if someone could help ID this contam at 9-11:30

I have been experiencing this growth after an agar --> agar transfer. I've been attempting to clean up a culture, from some colonized grain. What's curious to me is that this growth seems to originate from where I've cooled my scalpel.

I should add that my agar plates had some surface moisture after cooling from a pour. Could the extra water content have encouraged contams?

Thanks for having a peek

Don't worry about the weirdness right now. And I DO mean RIGHT NOW! Take an other transfer from a leading edge of your strandy growth and put it on another plate. This is common tek in any microbiology lab.  Just don't breathe all over it or make sudden crazy movements etc.

The reason I say 'do it now' is because if it is a contam, it will be an even GREATER contam when it starts to make spores. Spores fly all over and land everywhere. Good luck amigo! :dancer:

Old fart growers tip (me). To avoid condensation on your recently poured plates, stack them and put a coffee mug (filled with hot water of course), on top of your stack.
Your poiint of  contam is kinda unexplainable. If you heated your scalpel to almost anything above 140 degrees F, which is what happens when you hold a piece of metal over a candle flame for like 5 seconds, your source of contam is coming from somewhere else (?).
I'm a bit foggy from my 12 hour shift right now, so maybe I'm missing something, (I just want to help you grow shrooms!). Good luck friend, if you reply right now I'm here, but soon to crash lol. Others will chime in I hope. Peace yo...
