creating an epic bassline for a rap

Alright, so I have a midi keyboard, lyrics ready to record, plenty of presets for the midi but I am not finding one where the midi can create an effective bassline
A close acquaintance of mine plays bass guitar
Simple google search suggests I should use an electric guitar to create a unique bassline
But...for rap songs, can my buddy use his bass guitar and play very low chords? I was thinking of sending him a sample of the drums once I get that finished and the tempo, so he can work around it and create a bassline
But am I SOL? Does it have to be electric guitar or can a bass guitar do an effective bassline with different presets? Or am I looking at something with not enough strings?

Midi is just a trigger for samples really. I would maybe try to find some bass samples you like to play with for that.
They probably mean electric bass guitar. You could pull off a bassline with a regular guitar if you tuned down the top two or three low strings or something...but a bass would work better.
I'm not an expert or anything, but those are my thoughts on what you asked.

Set up a recording session with your bass playing amigo. Have him play various riffs or just have him playfully jam along. Go back to the recording and discover sections that you could cut out and loop to become a bassline.

I like this idea!! Oh my I didn't even think of that. I will have to ask said amigo and see when we can do that.

Ah, alright. I will see what he can do with his bass guitar, I think he will amaze me. Thank you for input as well here

Take that MIDI and hook it to a decent analog monosynth, then learn how to use a Low Pass Filter ("LPF") on your sound to focus the lows: familiarize yourself with the following concepts:
-the filter itself is pretty intuitive: for a "Low Pass Filter" it means when you turn the dial down ("closing the filter") it'll cut off all the higher sounds until nothing remains but sub-bass, as if you're underwater. -a filter Envelope Generator ("EG" - shapes how the filter responds with each key you play. This can make each hit sound like a "stab" or a "dip" or maybe cause it to swell with a slow Attack or fade out with a long release. The EG is just a shape, you can assign this shape to the Filter, or Amplitude if you want the keypress itself to change volume over time.) -RESONANCE (the most important concept to filtering (?) - controls how much emphasis is on the specific frequency you filter to. Sounds daunting but really it just means if you have your filter filtering out almost all the high frequencies, you can turn up the Resonance and it'll really CRANK those lows! Alternatively you can add high-end by leaving the LPF totally open and emphasize the highs with higher resonance. Generally higher-resonance sounds are more "wet"-sounding.)

Oh my goodness that is genius! Thank you. I will do this. Seems like the easiest way to find the best bass sounds for the tempo
Definitely getting a sustain pedal as well, it did not come with the midi
