One of the names I used to DJ under was Sylvester Dilsnique. The names Sylvester means "wood" and dilsnique is a french interpretation of the word dilsnick, which in old-school hip-hop meant "penis".

I think you negate to consider how pervasive electronic devices these days, in a childs hands, are in pumping that shit into their brains as compared to when it just came via the television.
I also think we should consider a father of three as having a little more authority than us childless ones when it comes to being able to observe it in action.
And seeing as you ignored my lengthy PM I can't resist my desire to say 'or are you an expert in raising children now too?'.

exactly, but even more so, the aesthetics of our culture have shifted, but at the heart of it it's still a capitalistic atomized society, where ideals like community, greater good, and compassion are not supported by the material conditions of most people's lives. Our culture is a feedback loop pushing us away from connection with our fellow humans, and its only to be expected this will be the result.
Of course there are people acting in the other direction, but most people will live lives that reinforce their cultural mythology, it's just what we do

I have two daughters (7 and 4) and we are quite strict in how much screen time we allow and what we allow them to watch
They dont have phones or gaming setups
I use digital devices almost the entire day and to be honest I dont like what its doing to me and the influence computers and the internet have in my life

that seems wise, a lot of young parents I see these days just hand their kids a screen to distract them in every situation, and then act surprised years later when those kids are antisocial, addicted to games and any screen, and don't show them appropriate respect.
I think there are real downsides to over-reliance on technology, and over-engagement with social media, which need to be managed. To my mind its a lot like issues with drugs, sex, or any other pleasure source. Healthy well raised and conscientious people will be able to manage their use properly, but they need a healthy groundwork to live by, and if their parents and culture won't provide that, their chances of being maladaptive probably skyrocket

not that I'm a perfectly adapted person or anything, but I didn't have video games or regular computer access until about Middle School age (and we never had TV channels), and I think that was very helpful growing up,as I spent way more time drawing, reading or exploring outside (also grew up on a small forested island which helped too). I notice compared to some of my friends who played video games from a young age that I'm a good deal more patient and less easily bored...
however most of them are way better at working with computers, which is actually pretty vital to a lot of decent paying jobs these days, so perhaps its a bit of a toss up

With some obvious exceptions, it is my personal experience that people in company top positions have for the most part great social skills
An older guy I work with regularly was telling me that young entrepeneurs dont even want to meet in person anymore

My twin 12 year olds and 13 year old don't have phones and are not allowed screen time at all during the week. We don't have a television connection, just a screen where we can play movies and games on the weekend, though they do have their own tablets that they can also use on weekends. They find these kids who are obsessed with their devices funny. They call them "Tik-Tokkers". It's a derogatory term for kids who are emulating the behaviour in the OP. My kids friends seem pretty solid as well, no real idiots among them
So while there is a lot of this fuckery going on I do believe that there are a lot of young people who are just being normal, but of course we don't see that on social media because that's not video interesting. There's not a million videos of kids playing games, or drawing, or swimming in the pool, or just generally being kids getting loads of views. That's hardly interesting to watch.
It's a lens of perception. Just because we see something most we tend to think that happens most of the time. But our perception fools us, even as adults we can be just as naive as we were as children.

Agreed. Most kids I know are more grounded than I was at their age. When you turn your camera on everything that is provaocative, you could be fooled into thinking everything is provocative.
I was thinking last night they have to behave more because they know cameras are turned on everything they do. For example they are being filmed if they go raging through the streets like my friends and I used to do.

There is massive group think at play with social media and constantly needing peer approval. When you factor in many kids are in daycare now also so it begins even earlier.
I have several nieces and nephews, my oldest nephew is like 10 now and my brother was in a custody battle over him for years, the mother didn't have any interest in raising the child other than for financial incentives. To the point that my brother offered her 2 weekends a month and she pays nothing and they agreed.
Point being while all that was playing out my nephew got away with murder, because my brother was afraid of the custody battle. There is a lot more poor over worked people raising children that leaves children further more susceptible to the people that use social media to influence children.

I never found these types of humour funny myself. But since you mentioned Jackass I find it worth pointing out that I feel this was where a lot of the self-deprecating and/or humiliating behaviour from nobodies became popularised and encouraged as a way of seeking validation. Everyone wants their fifteen seconds of fame and will do just about anything to get it; this is narcissism at it's finest.
I'd also like to share some statistics for those in this thread who think social media is not changing behaviour or having a negative impact on children. It is plain for all to see

Statistics courtesy of The Social Dilemma. Well worth a watch if you want to understand the hows and whys of social media manipulation and the resulting behaviour modification

I cant really comment on kids being hooked on FB, Instagram and TikTok, I never got into those, but I have always been hooked on message boards, even now I can spend all day alternating between Shroomery, Reddit and Youtube, I guess a couple differences is I am not just posting selfies or live-ing what I am doing on the street, generally im on boards related to my interest
I spend a lot of time on reddit like r/fasting and theres a constant influx of noobs asking noob questions like if a multi-vitamin is good enough to supplement on a long fast, and its like, no you need sodium and potassium and perhaps magnesium, but I dont mind answering these questions, just spreading what I already spent time reading and they havnt, so maybe its slightly more productive then posting selfies
but im only obsessed with the internet when im at home, when im on the street the only device I have in my hand is my e-cigerette, Im not very social, but im not a phone zombie either
