I had lots of shitty jobs... then I went to university to study programming. I worked hard to learn as much as possible and now I have the ability to work from anywhere with only a laptop and internet. So yeah I think hard work pays out, but only if you like what you do.

In my personal experience there has always been a trade-off.
Working hard has always given me 'something'. Sometimes it's been a bit more money, other times it's been skills in a field that I've wanted to become better at. I try not to spend any time in a field where I can't either get ahead financially or gain a certain level of skill that I feel is worth my time.
That being said, usually by doing those things, I've left other things by the wayside. Family, vacations, friends, relationships, etc. I never am an asshole to these things that pop up, but it seems like working hard forces these things to become luxuries.
I feel like striking a balance is the best thing to work towards.

Gotta work smart
Working hard manual labor is never going to make you rich
Working "hard" in an office/business setting can get you pretty comfy financially

Depends
some "hard manual labor" jobs in construction and shit can land you $100K+ a year

Maybe we are not considering that as financially comfortable but I think it qualifies for most people

I think for you to make that kind of money in construction you need to have some skill right? Ahab is making good money building windmills, but to me thats skilled labor
Im thinking jobs like picking fruit, moving furniture stuff like that

Construction is also a temperamental field. If you're a foreman or something, you can easily clear 100k consistently. If you're one of the dudes pouring concrete eight hours a day in the hot summer sun, then your location and the general economy significantly affects your income. If it's good times and you're in a booming city, you'll be making 80-100k no problem. On the other hand, there were a lot of 30 year old former construction workers in my college classes around 2010.

What are you talking about? There are HVAC techs making 50 dollars an hour investing their extra money, Electricians too etc, fucka hot water heater installer can make over 30 an hour just doing that.
Every mechanic at Boeing that worked there till retirement are all millionaires.
There are a lot of laborious jobs that pay a lot.

Those are all skilled labor.
The journeyman electrician I occasionally smoke with started off at 12/hr last year, and is up at I think 14/hr now. In a decade, assuming he doesn't fuck up, he'll probably be making 30-50/hr, without a college degree. Although, that kind of depends on the projects he gets or if he decides to start his own company.

I don't see what is skilled labor and what isn't, like I was an electrical installer at Boeing and it was the most confusing shit I ever done, now I am an HVAC tech and basically in 1 month being taught how to do shit by 1 guy who barely is teaching I know like 70% of the shit now.
Not all that skilled the only thing that is kinda confusing is how to cut metal transitions, make them from scraps of sheet metal,
however a lot of HVAC techs only specialize in 1 task, our parent company, 1 guy will do just condensate, 1 guy will do just gas lines, literally completely un skilled if u only do one simple little task lol.
But hvac techs at Boeing are classified as skilled labor.
but electrical installers, which are really airplane electrical mechanics, were classified as unskilled.
Yeah unskilled pfftt lol literally 4 weeks of classroom training to do unskilled labor? What ever they say.
Dude literally UPS is hiring truck loaders, literally grab a box and put it on the truck over and over again, starting pay 19 an hour, starting, also 25k towards schooling.
I could go one and on, even amazon has a high starting pay these days.
