this appeared and I have no clue what it is. Is it metabolites or contam? Should the mycelium be cut off at its root with a knife?

this is a swab of the liquid. dark brown smear

Metabolites or 'myc piss' as it's often called here is released by the cake when it's fully colonized. Super common on pf cakes and often confused for a contam. While it can be a sign of contam, it's also produced by healthy mycelium and also when growing conditions aren't optimal, usually when things are too wet. If your cake made it through germination, colonization, and then to fruiting with no noticeable issues, I would say you're in the clear. Post pic when you get that first flush!
