Psychedelic usage to counteract effects of autism.
    #26973282 - 10/07/20 06:12 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

I was smoking the other day talking to my girlfriend (she herself has autism) and was describing to her my experience that I had the previous day. From what she told me, herself she occasionally gets a feeling of shifting or change of environment the same as if you were to say switch rooms while tripping, or like go into a bathroom it always feels like you are entering somewhere else literally lol if ya know you know. On top of that I was describing as best as I could to the deeper connection you get between someone when you are expressing love towards a SO, that rope bond between consciousnesses that I personally can only best describe as you feel it and see it but don't actually see it. She herself has this "feelsee" effect. The fact people with autism have a processing disorder so they aren't able to necessarily be fully intelligible when speaking to others was put into question too for the fact when you are on psychedelics, some people become completely unintelligible at times and have a hard time processing words or just things in general. With that as well I have seen a video from psychedsubstance who had a buddy that was dosed who had I think Asperger's and instead of him becoming even more unintelligible which being common under the influence of psychedelics, the exact opposite happened. He was able to process things slightly better, he was able to communicate and talk as if he had no process disorder really. Which leads me to think possibly the usage of psychedelic's within someone who has autism would do the complete opposite and actually improve how they are able to communicate so forth compared to if someone without autism were to take it. a few other fun little theories I thought of too were possibly people with autism have a higher sense of consciousness for the fact they experience the same sort of mind alteration that someone on it would experience just without the visual hallucinations maybe? Or if that is the case that if it counteracts autism then maybe some compound that is released in the brain during the experience helps their brain to where it is able to function as the same as someone without autism. Thoughts?

I am specifically referencing to LSD though, only because I personally feel like mushrooms are a completely different experience all together. But then again, it's different for everyone haha

I have been told I am on the spectrum and all of my skills, even when they're not very good normally, go into superhuman mode on LSD (well, not a full dose, but more along the lines of 50-75mcg).

I don't know if I have autism though. I am just really good at some things but socially I suck at interacting with people lol. Idk what that means, but I constantly struggle to talk normally and form coherent thoughts.

But on LSD that is not the case. Also, post trip, I tend to be able to do everything better...I feel like a better version of me for about six months to a year. That kind of post effect happens with higher doses for me though. It's like my brain has been optimized and reset. Idk, that's just what LSD does.

Facilitate a good environment, have entertainment at the ready, eye masks, headphones, etc. That always makes me have a good trip....but also, I know what I should expect when I do it. Psychonaut wiki has good info about LSDs effects. If you can explain what they'll expect and if they're up for trying it then, well, could be helpful. Everyone reacts differently, so it's hard to say

Funny, my roommate who has Asperger's took his first dose yesterday, 200ug so wasn't too much but he wanted to have a journey. funny enough his first time, it was also taking bicycle day haha. I noticed as it kicked in for him he began to question if it was working until I vividly described the visuals and helped him analyze his surroundings to become aware of it more then bam he blasted off haha. However I did tend to notice he was able to talk completely normal and process thoughts so forth easily compared to someone who doesn't have autism. I asked him his views of life, the earth, so forth since he wanted to actually have a more in depth experience. As we were walking down a trail he was observing his surroundings and perfectly was able to converse with me without any pausing, no hesitation on what to say when I asked a question, he had thoughts instantaneously. Was pretty fun just being able to observe, dude ended up taking his shoes off walking barefoot through grass and sand thinking he saw bob saget in the dirt haha, hugged a tree and called it his best friend, laid in the grass and saw his dad and mom between the sky and tree branches lol went to tell me how beautiful the earth was and that he cant litter anymore because of it, apparently had a moment with a spider and cannot kill spiders anymore lol. I question though one odd thing I noticed, he was constantly seeing faces. Bob saget, his brother, obama, just literally a bunch of random people. I questioned him and asked if he meant fractals and such but he told me fractals and faces. Overall he had a great experience and even today he has more clarity in his head it seems which is really cool and he noticed himself that some things he thinks now he wouldn't be thinking before he took it. This makes me question if psychedelics really can change autism.

My girlfriend is on the spectrum as well, any advice I could relay to her for her first time? I am very experienced when it comes to me personally taking psychedelics as well as sitting however as someone with autism she tells me that she gets more clarity from other people that deal with the same thing explaining to her. I've explained to her the visuals you tend to get as well as best to my ability to describe just a trip in general. She however is worried of having a bad experience due to the fact when she was in her teen days she enjoyed to travel through the plateaus of mr. Dextro. Dove too deep in the dxm plateaus and had a very bad trip where she thought she was dead. I explain to her the differences between the two trips, the potentials of bad trips really being good experiences as well. That being said, as you being someone on the spectrum. Maybe you could describe the effects for you slightly better since it varies.

That was off topic though, as for on the spectrum. Both my girlfriend and my roommate, the roommate being full blown with Asperger's and my gf on the spectrum. They both get a feeling/sense of shift in environment when they change rooms or such, things just feel off, weird, different. That's what they both have told me. If you feel those things maybe possibly you are? Maybe it could just be them specifically though.

And yeah LSD rewires your brain if I am correct, it adds new spines and branches as well as rebuilds brain cells and changes the structures of them. I could be totally wrong with exactly how it works but I do know it does rewire it pretty much.

You are correct, it does have neurogenesis properties, as well as psilocybin. At least, that's what quite a lot of maps studies have seemed to discover. Hofmann used his own discovery later in life with small to medium doses and lived to be 102, was very coherent into his 90s. I think there was a recent study that showed that LSD in particular can combat Alzheimer's, to great effect. I envision that most rewiring is reinforcement, but a lot of it is also new nerve growth. This is rarely a bad thing. If anyone ever falls into something like that, the worst thing that you can do is panic. Best thing to do is meditate. I often notice that even if I get terrible sleep after a trip, it's the most restful and restorative sleep I ever get, even if it's only for a few hours. That, and the distinct lack of any hangover feeling whatsoever is what makes me believe it is actually very beneficial.

I'd like to see the usage of it towards a child with autism. Such as a doctor prescribes a microdosage amount in a capsule of lsd or something like that to where they wouldn't actually trip but yanno, get the passive benefits to it. To be on that as a medication as a child when the autism is discovered, potentially it may diminish the effects of autism completely?

I don't have autism so I can't speak to personal experience, but I sincerely doubt that psychedelics would have any effect.

In terms of the social dysfunction caused by autism, some people have speculated that MDMA might help, but I really doubt psychedelics would do anything.

Yes they have used MDMA to help with social dysfunction, there was also some studies on giving children with autism LSD back in the 1960's but they never went to the extent of actually dosing them. But there are plenty of reports of people with autism taking mushrooms and reported to be able to talk more literal and for everything being easier on the mind to where they don't have to think about every little thing they do. Why do you personally think it wouldn't have any effect?

I think it depends on how severe the autism is. If its like mildly on the spectrum, probably there can be a lot of benefit. Who knows.
I have read some people here with autism spectrum disorder saying that they benefit.
