Well I gotta work with whats available here
I live in one of the most developed nations in the world. As least there are no cars on the island and at night there is very little light pollution. So epic starfields
I expect it will be raining and overcast my entire stay

The only state park I've been to is the Colorado Big Bend in Texas and holy fuck it was awesome. Waterfalls, trails, fishing, it had it all.

Speaking of star gazing, one of my short term goals was to see the milky best with my bare eyes. I recently went to the gates of Big Bend National Park (closed because of covid) near the time of a new moon and thou the stars were impressive, I could not make out the band of the milky way. Has anyone here been to any of these dark sky parks and can actually see the band of the milky way with thier own eyes or is that something that only the camera can see?

Oh I've seen it clear as day alright; it's fucking spectacular to see with the naked eye like that.
I was 14,000ft above sea level in the Northern Tablelands of NSW, Australia, and many miles away from any semblance of civilization though.

I think you mean big bend ranch state park and the Colorado River kinda towards Houston which are a bit aways from each other, but both very nice. I remember the Colorado River being overgrown with bush and kinda wild looking. If your ever around the area of Big Bend again, check out the devils river state natural area near Del Rio. I always felt like that part of Texas around Del Rio and Big Bend was a very unique part of Texas and interesting place to explore. There were lots of animals, especially at night

Yosemite. I have a painting with a list of all the National Parks and I have been to more than half of them. Upper and Lower Yosemite are so amazing! Also the Hetch Hetchy part. Everywhere you look is more beautiful than the last place you looked. As for the time of year, anytime of year is awesome.
I'm actually going out to Yosemite before X-mas this year with some friends and if any of you guys want to join us then let me know and I can make it happen with extra hotel rooms and.or camping equipment. We'll probably stay at a local resort and chill in the hot tub and pool with drinks at night. During the day we're going to bike the lower canyon and do some hiking and maybe even dose out on some L or whatever feels right.
A sort of close second is Redwood State and National Park.
Yellowstone is on the top of my list to see, along with Zion, Crater Lake, and Lassen. I plan to go to all 3 of those net year.

I actually did do some research on the subjects and found out that to kayak the grand canyon is something like 200 miles and that you need a permit to do it. In Yellowstone, it's a federal offense to float the river. I was also just reading an article urging hikers to be prepared and know thier limits when hiking the grand canyon because there have been numerous search and rescues and calls to the ranger from hikers in distress.

200 miles is quite the journey :o
I'm happy they have such stringent protections in Yellowstone - it's one of the few places in the continental US where there's that much flourishing wildlife. One of the few places aside from Alaska and Northern Idaho/Montana where you really need serious contingency plans for dealing with bears
