eh may be a longshot (finance question)
    #26974845 - 10/08/20 02:39 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I need help with a question on my business finance homework...

anyone skilled in this area?

i keep getting an answer that doesn't match the multiple choice...there is a "none of these" answer but that is usually the wrong answer..

I just want to make sure I get it right because this is the only problem i am having a problem with..

A zero-coupon bond matures in 7 years and sells for $695. If the tax rate is 38% and there is a $9.00 flotation cost, what is the cost of debt?
a. 4.958%
b. 3.276%
c. 2.452%
d. 3.383%
e. none of the above

I am tutoring someone who is having a really hard time understanding the material especially the math...its a senior level finance class, very dense information combined with, at times, very tedious math...most of the problems the professor gives are very tough to answer without a very solid understanding of the material because they involve misdirection, multiple steps and/or a rearranging of a formula or three to get the right answer.
Even the terms and definitions are worded in such a way that you really have to know your stuff.
girl I tutor said it's the hardest class she has ever taken..and she is a senior at a good university pursuing a degree in business, with a 3.8 GPA..she is smart.

I never even took anything close to this class when I was in school..I was asked for help because the chick I am tutoring knows I am good at math and wondered if I could help.

I always wanted to become competent with this business finance stuff so i could learn how to invest proper and start/run a business..so I said yes...not very often you get to basically take a senior level class for free and without prerequisites.

It's a lot of studying but I got this class down and am learning a lot of practical info..I basically learn the material quick as possible so I can break it down in a way she understands.
