Mexicans and Greeks can both be ambiguously ethnic.

Gyro's are so gosh dang good!!! I don't know if I would trust a Mexican gyro though. I guess I'm a little racist when it comes to making gyros.
Side note: It drives me crazy when people pronounce "gyro" with a hard "G" and it should be pronounced like "Year-O."

Who should make them then? No greek restaurant I know serves gyros they're all nice sit down places. And still probably no greek cooking anyway.

I thought gyros was a type of meat dish, not a thing you make
Like, you put gyros on a pita bread or you have "a plate of gyros"
Not, "a gyros"
I think those Mexicans are scamming you and serving roadkill

You have to make the shank and season it and roast it on a vertical rotating thing. I would say you make gyros

This was/is a relatively common occurrence at the pizza shops i have worked at. It's usually older men who believe they're Sicilian due to the darker complexion.
Yet for every person who believes a Central/South American person to be European, there's ten times as many who believe that every Latino they see is Mexican . Is'nt that just as ignorant?

Any type of Greek food here is generally legit Greek people. Except with mall chain franchise type stuff, those are more like 50/50 Greek and other immigrant owners and workers. And there are Greek run burger and fries plus gyros and souvlaki places, those are good.
My background is supposed to be 100% Irish but I can attain a moderately dark tan. The one ethnicity I have had people guess or say I resembled is Jewish. Mostly in hair texture I guess.

Yeah a lot came over in the 70s or so I think. Italians too around that era. Mexican people aren't a particularly major ethnic group here at all. Except seasonally in agricultural areas.

Doner is the meat/way it's cooked. The firm favourite of post-drinking street meals in England:
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Dang JSB, those meats look so good! I looked into buying a gyro machine like in those pics before. They wanted over $300 for the cheapest so I almost made my own using a rotisserie motor from a BBQ grill and an element from an oven with a heat reflector behind it. I drew up the plans and everything and then got distracted and never went through with it. The other thing is it would just be my wife and I and that is a ton of meat for just 2 people. I would have to make some and then sell the rest on the streets like they do in England.

They rotate first place with another shop on this cities kebab report
Left is lamb and right is chicken
I always get the lamb

I did some reading. The vertical rotisserie was introduced in the Ottoman empire in the mid 1800s. Döner kebab is the original turkish version. Arabs turned the dish into schwarma. The Greeks changed the recipe to create gyros. In the early 20th century Lebanese immigrants to mexico adapted schwarma with local ingredients to make al pastor. "Donair" is a Canadian version introduced in the 1970s. Now the official food of Halifax.
