Hydration multiplier
    #26974258 - 10/07/20 05:56 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I'm thinking about trying one of these hydration multipliers. I have a hard time hydrating and it's starting to take effect on my appearance and health.

I drink water every day, maybe 4 20oz bottles a day, but it doesn't seem to be enough. Theses HMs seem to be the answer.

Here's one I'm looking at specifically..

Seems legit.  I'm thirsty, my body is telling me I need water.  I'll bet I'll get more water into it if I add salt to my water, yeah that's the ticket.  It's pretty much powdered gatorade, maybe with no sugar cause you are not expending energy.  Just drink more water, if you are thirsty. If you are not thirsty you are fine on the hydration front. If you are still concerned make sure your urine is mostly clear, although medicines/drugs can have an effect on urine color/odor.

just drink/eat things with lots of water, such as milk, or watermelon/fruits with high water content. it's more hydrating than water alone that way.

just one thing to keep in mind, since a lot of processed foods tend to be things like chips/crackers or other dry snacks, and not healthy, high fiber, high moisture content food like fruits and veggies (with fairly low sugar/fat content) that fill you up with lots of water and sate you for a while, both hunger and hydration wise.

Nothing hydrates as much as plain water.

Electrolytes only make you more thirsty and put on weight.

You're supposed to get your water from water and your electrolytes from eating healthy.

This story was the first thing I heard when I turned on the radio this morning.

"Rehydration sweets offer potential lifeline to dementia patients".

https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk-news/2020/10/07/rehydration-sweets-offer-potential-lifeline-to-dementia-patients/

Pricey though. Dependent on what arrangements you make with the company, they go from £5+ to £7+ for a box which contains 300ml of water!

From my understanding it's not a replacement, it's a booster, but I mean, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Are you getting enough sodium? You need it to stay hydrated.

It's no different than any electrolyte drink mix really. You're paying a premium on this product because of its heavy marketing emphasis,  it's being peddled like snake oil essentially.

The term cellular transport technology is something they made up or just completely took off with, but when you look it up they are referring to the drink having sodium, potassium and glucose in the packet.  Those are all found in most electrolyte drink mixes, there's nothing inherently special about their powder over just buying a sugar free Gatorade mix or cheap off brand version of the same.

You can retain more water with electrolytes, and electrolytes are generally necessary for survival, but if you eat any amount of fruit/vegetables and occasionally salt your foods you're getting what you need for the most part.  Take a multivitamin with potassium and vitamin b to do the same.

Everybody who isn't a food Nazi is getting too much sodium. Processed foods almost all have too much sodium added to them.

I bought a liter pack of mixed veggie juices that said "100% pure vegetable juice"

What could possibly go wrong?

...the pack contained 4.6 grams of added salt, I noticed immediately on tasting, it tasted like salty soup.

My organism would have welcomed a liter of mixed veggie juices, but adding so much salt to it means that if you drink the liter, you add a liter of water retention.

The idea was "veggies make you pee!" which they do because of potassium and magnesium. Add a dominant amount of salt to it and it locks up your kidneys unless you drink little of it.

A large sugar lump's weight worth of salt! Who in his right mind adds that much salt to a refreshing beverage?

Trust no veggie smoothie you haven't blenderized yourself.

But, protip, if you take some juice and add like 1/4 of it to water, you are having a drink with electroytes that gives you energy, and no artificial crap or inflated prices involved.

It's got almost 25% of your daily sodium intake and 11g of added sugar. Not something I'd want to be guzzling all the time, personally. I don't get particularly thirsty unless I sweat. Exercise seems to fix my broken thirst meter.

Also this sounds hella lame, but an 'ergonomic' water bottle solved a lot of my woes too - something with a straw-lid. Basically an adult sippy cup, for all intents and purposes. Seems like I drink way, way more water with that bottle than with wide mouthed/nalgene bottles.

unless you got actual blood pressure issues and have to watch your salt intake, salt intakes not really something to freak out over, provided you drink adequate water. your body knows what to do with too much salt. that being said, who really wants to get something with so much salt in it? it's kinda gross eating/drinking a salt lick. salt is NOT the enemy, mind you. a small amount of salt heightens other flavors, but you really don't need much salt at all for that.

what's better is to have foods that have soluble fiber, to soak up that water like a sponge, or just have high water content foods in general - this gives your body more time to absorb the moisture, plus having the electrolytes with it to actually have the water stick to your body, instead of just having it go "water in, watery piss (and salts) out". i'm not saying to eat more, but to pick foods that are very moist. fruits, veggies, soups, milk, anything that's just oozing moisture and isn't too dense in calories is a good choice, generally, unless you're needing that much calories.

that said, the higher a percentage of water a food is, the less space it has for other things. (like calories.) so generally, high moisture foods do tend to run toward healthier and more filling.

I do appreciate all the feedback. I can honestly say I will not be purchasing this nonsense.

I also realized my health and mind really need a change and check. Ages ago I ate amazing great while taking care of my physicalness. In the fallowing weeks I will attempt to get back into this habit.

drink two gallons of purified drinking water every day.  put B vitamins and magnesium in there, and electrolytes, and slice up a lemon and put it in there too.  bitch.

2 gallons outside of the desert would put you at risk of water intoxication.
