Day 18 Spawning n Hardly Spreading

Hey all,
I really wish that I found this site a few weeks ago. I have been and will continue to read around but I'm kind of in a bit of a situation. A friend and I (he paid n I'm looking after it) got a mushroom grow kit from one of the big sites and I don't know if it's messed up. I feel bad because he put few hundred bucks into it. But hopefully I'm just jumping to conclusions and we can save this.
We followed the directions that were provided. It came with a box of spawn (instead of a syringe with spores), burlap bags of hay, and another of soil mix for fruiting stage, bag, bin, etc. We boiled the straw, let it cool completely then mixed the box of spawn in thoroughly, leveled it out in the bag in the bin, rolled the bag closed loosely like a paper bag and put it in a climate controlled growtent with a thermostat and small heater to keep between 25c-26c. There was always moisture on the bag and it is dark unless I peek.
It has now been 18 days and only small patches are covered with white growth. I don't know how long I can leave it as the booklet provided says it should be finished in 12 days and this is not even close to completely spread. I can provide pictures if needed but didn't want to expose to too much light. I appreciate any input.

Go ahead and post pictures; it'll help us help you. Also, don't worry about exposing to light, its been shown that light is actually beneficial to the mushrooms at all stages of growth. It definitely won't hurt it at all.

Hello,
If you add photos to this thread (no need to start a new thread), and change the subject line to something more descriptive, you'll be more likely to get help.
That and more stuff I wish I'd known my first day here is in the link in my sig line.
You can expose it to light to take a photo. In fact, up to 12 hours a day of light is good at all phases. (Light should be 6500k, but other light colour will not hurt it, especially to just take photos).
Not sure what the kit directions are. Many people here don't use kits, and you can do much better on less money doing it from scratch.
If you want to do that and don't want to buy spores, and you do have mycelium, it's possible you could take a little of your mycelium and start a liquid culture for a new grow, or an agar round for a new grow.
All are a little advanced compared to letting a bag sit in a closet. But they're not rocket science. Some people do figure it out from reading the starting links here. (in my sig line...Also includes the start links on this site, and how to use the advanced search, which is important.)
Main thing you need is a pressure cooker that can get to 15 psi, and an SAB. You can make an SAB.
Welcome!

Here is a formula I follow Spore print to agar plate. Agar plate to WBS jars and or bags Then to straight coco coir. ( following all the sterile techniques of course). The search bar is your friend. Follow the TC and you will go far

Thanks for being so welcoming guys. I realize I came into this underprepared. If this batch is ruined I'm going to start from scratch now that I have this site and resources. Here are a few pictures:

I don't see anything that screams "ruined" to me, but I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like. The instructions have you doing a lot of things that we wouldn't.

LC is not an option at this point. Everything has been exposed to air, the pasteurized (not sterilized) straw, etc. It would have to be cleaned up on agar first.

Where if you're alone, you know, you either come through it or you die, but in any case you avoid the fuss.'" - Terrence McKenna

Here are some pictures of the instruction manual that came with the kit:

I don't know what my next step should be. I've already started ordering supplies to do a proper Tek but I hate giving up on this unless it's completely ruined. Is there a maximum amount of time I can leave this or should I just keep waiting until it has completely spread, then move to fruiting stage?

You can just let it chill until it explodes with mold or colonizes, or starts looking slimy which may well happen. The straw looks way wet and straw is supposed to be properly pasteurized which means heating it up to between 140f-165 for one hour and then letting it cool. Too much heat or for too long and you start killing beneficial microbes and stuff.
I skimmed a few pages of that stuff, you don’t need to colonize in the dark and you wanna stay around 74f.
Straw can be a decent additive (but again it requires proper pasteurization) but it shouldn’t really be used as a sole or even majority of bulk substrate.
Then the tent and air pumps and all are unnecessary and pretty unhelpful actually for growing cubensis. A monotub or shoe box is all you need and they work the best.
So hope for extreme luck with this current project but buy a few sleeves of Petri dishes and a few ounces of agar powder and LME. Buy a spore print (not syringe) and build a SAB. You’ll need a pressure cooker too which is fucking tricky to get a good one right now it seems like but maybe you already have one. I made do with an 8qt PC when I first started. I could fit 3 qts in that bad boy.
Check out the links in my journal to all kinds of good shit and grow tons of mush with Coir/verm. Those two do not need to be pasteurized. Simple tap water will work but hot water expands the coir better.
