Half hardwood fuel pellets, half soy hulls or bran or coffee (soy hulls have worked best for me). Anytime you supplement hardwood pellets you need to pressure cook the blocks for 2.5 hours at 15psi. If you do not go the supplement route, you can just use fuel pellets alone but will need to pasteurize them. Ive never tried NOT supplementing so I cant speak on what kind of yields those blocks produce. Good luck growing!

Kings are one of the few species I will say kinda need to be supplemented... yields suck if you don't.
They're so aggressive though you can almost get away with not sterilizing, although I don't recommend unless you want to experiment. I did and it worked though. But for best results, supplement heavily and sterilize the whole substrate

I have a King Oyster culture on agar, waiting for me to take it to spawn. What stopped me from trying is that somewhere I read that King Oyster is an aggressive grower but finicky in fruiting. What conditions do you give it to get it fruiting?
If somebody has grown usual gray/white oysters, are the King's much more difficult? Similar?
Thanks!

Where are people finding Soy Hulls where shipping doesn't make it cost prohibitive?
I see some good prices from some places, but where would I look locally?

Shit than i will forget it because it's to much work with the pellets etc.. I thought Coco is a great Substrat. I have made a litte Substrat with coir to make a test grow but maybe will fail ore yielding bad.

Start by looking up any and all feed/ garden/ farm stores around you. Call them all. I thought it was hopeless for me until I randomly stumbled across a small store about 1 hr from me that carried them. 1 hr may seem far, but for $13 50lb bags I won't need to go back until next year. If google doesnt give you enough results just ask vendors at a local farmers market. Your chances are pretty high that you will eventually find them. Try and find soy hulls and not soy pellets (made from hulls). Pellets work fine but dont break up as easy as wood fuel pellets do and are a bit sticky. My source is a privately owned Agway.
Also, to respond to SONORAMO : The only different thing I started doing with Kings that differs from other Oysters is I wait until I see visible pinning in the bag BEFORE the bag gets opened amd introduced to fruiting conditions. Ive grown Pearl, Goldens and now Blues and all of them you can just open and flip the bag/ make your slits when you are confident its fully colonized and pins form beautifully. I feel like Kings need a little extra time sealed to start pinning. Also introducing the block to colder temps after colonization worked for me.

They're not really that hard at all you just usually have to be able to put them in cold to trigger pinning. People try to grow them in summer when they have no cold area and find it difficult. As long as it gets cold at night where you are you really shouldn't have an issue.
