(This is educational in nature, and not in reference to human consumption of psychoactive plants.)
I ordered 4 cuttings (7"-9") off eBay - originating in Sacramento, where it is presumably grown. The USDS hardiness zones for ideal Echinopsis pachanoi growth is 8a-10b, and Sacrament is generally 9a, which falls in the acceptable range for an optimal environment (in the US.)
I see a lot of mixed messages regarding Mescaline content - some say Peruvian Torch has higher alkaloid content than San Pedro "strains" (despite existing literature and empirical evidence that found the opposite), but I am not one to stick my nose up to qualitative reports.
- Does anyone have reports concerning San Pedro Cacti?
- Does mescaline content vary in cuttings compared to grown cacti?
- How much (wet) weight would contain a remarkable quantity of mescaline?
- Is the bridgesii strain or Echinopsis lageniformis "better" than Trichocereus pachanoi (San Pedro)?
- Is an acid/base extraction with xylene worth it for smaller quantities?
I understand no one on earth can predict the content of random cuttings from CA, but in the literature it is clearly demonstrated that the region it is grown in has a significant impact on the content. I found a meta-analysis of GC/MS testing on San Pedro cactus, and one of the samples was from CA - it had less Mescaline content than South American samples, but it was still a surprisingly sufficient percentage of dried weight. However, I have not found empirical evidence regarding content in varying stages of maturity (cuttings.) Likewise, I haven't found this discussed on this forum or elsewhere.
- As a total wild guess, does anyone think the 4 eBay cuttings are likely to contain noteworthy contents of desirable alkaloids?
I have seen discussions about these cacti in other dimensions of discourse in this forum. There also seems to be a portion of the community that is well-learned and knowledgeable about such things. I'm hoping to find a kindred spirit who can provide input. Also any experiences regarding usage of cuttings would be appreciated.
I am working on a project and intend to subject samples to a Marquis Reagent and a GC/MS lab analysis. I'm an independent, amateur researcher; which is a charitable way of saying I'm a University student who is role-playing as someone important, working on a paper. As such, I do not intend on consuming aforementioned substances, but my hypothesis is dependent on the process being successful. I will not include any information obtained from this forum.

edgar1337 you admit & write: "....I understand no one on earth can predict the content of random cutting...."
Yet you make huge post with multiple questions, you expect others to answer for you, while claiming you are a researcher.
hmm......
but who knows maybe you get lucky and SpacedX helps you.
