What happened to all the jars? I can't find them anywhere! How's a guy supposed to make a 500 grain jar dream come true? What's a good 2 nd choice? Bags? Will turkey bags work? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Sounds like you're about to buy 500 jars of sauces and pickles

Classico brand sells their sauce in legit mason jars which take standard (not wide mouth)mason jar lids. The lids they come with will work but you might want to get some PP5 lids eventually.
Lots of folks are using the PP5 lids instead of the separate ring lids these days and you can find those ultra cheap on mushroom supply sites, especially shroomery sponsors.
If you are looking to do 500 jars, you will definitely want to buy lids that AREN't pre-fitted with whatman filters, SFD's and/or SHIPs, but if you are only looking for a few, those are a good option as well.
You could always DIY that with supplies from the same sites.

i am a jar lover but they obviously have disadvantages when you want to go bulk compared to bags
Compared my grow to a friend the other day, he had 15 kilos of grain sub divided on six bags, i had 10 kilos of sub divided into jars some of them only 230 ml big. For my smallest jars, I'd use 13~ jars for each of his 2,5 kilos of grain bags.
I tried to argue that I Could divide more strains and genetics, that i got more transfer practise, but in the end I was grasping straws. As long as his bags dont contam, they are more effient time and energy wise than a lot of glass jars. and even if a bag contams, and that is worse than my jars, the ease of production of the bag, makes up for it.
in the end I got upset by how much easier the bagman had it than me, and ordered 30 x 0,5 micron bags after the conversation
that said, there is probably its own set of small tricks and unique stuft to consider for bags, which i'll have to learn, when you go from jar town to bag city.
Didnt have a vacuum sealer before, have one now, didnt want to get into bags before i could seal them after inoculation. gonna try to knock up 15 kilos of grain with bags, and see how they go

Also, you don't need to seal bags... i use paper clips... haven't had a contam issue yet...

Something crazy I realized the other day when I made my first spawn jars out of old pickle jars, is that you can actually get them cheaper than mason jars and they’re full of food so you get snacks.

Exactly! I can get a gallon of dill pickles for 5 bucks and change. Getting gallon mason jars for five bucks? Nah. My eating habits revolve around glass accumulation lol. Classico spaghetti sauce for 24oz Atlas mason jars with a metal, one piece lid... narrow-mouth quarts of coconut oil instead of the comparable ones in shitty plastic containers, pickles in half and full gallons, kimchi jars with metal one piece lids, quarts of olives... Probably have a hundred food jars I use just as much as Ball and Kerr masons. Love pickle/jam lids...

I use 16 oz jars with plastic lids I buy at the grocery store.
