Dog food agar
    #26971226 - 10/05/20 08:11 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

I plan on making some dog food agar,  I was thinking if I simmer the dog food for a few min then use the water? Will there be enough nutes in the water? I was thinking this recipe. Telephone agar powder, dog food water, lil honey , food coloring.

I'd use potato flakes and Karo syrup. That being said. I think you should absolutely try it and report back. It does not take much potato flakes so I don't see why just the nutrient filled water wouldn't work. Unless it has some chemical in it designed to stop fungus.

I was reading about dog food agar and it seems really amazing. I just don't want to put dog food in my grinder. Also I was thinking about just using the water for esthetic reasons so my plates won't have sediment.

You don’t have to grind it, it’ll dissolve in the pc. If you’re pouring plates, just add your dog food and agar to your bottle and top up to volume with room temp tap and pc.

I am doing no pours. I have pour plates haven't busted them out yet until I get really good at the no pours and have some nice cultures to transfer

just a heads up, and make of it what you will. I tried cooking dog food once, and the smell was so god awful, that my roommate stormed out. called me and bitched me out and told me to get that shit out immediately. it was pretty disgusting.

I would avoid open cooking it, lol. I also used to work near a Purina plant. worst. smell. ever.

I bet some are worse than others. I’ve never noticed it being a bad smell when pouring after pc’ing.  Can’t speak to stove top cooking it.

Hahaha thanks Munch, I guess now is a good a time as any to try pour plates. I can always do more, if they get damaged. One question about pour plates. Do they have to be wrapped up in saran wrap. I have some glad press and seal paper. I could pre cut straps then fold it over the plates and press it sealed?
