Do all fields grow libs?

So... I know that if the grass is really short then there's not much point right? Either they don't grow or the stems are super short or something right...
BUT my main question is, will libs grow in ANY field as long as it is wet or are there certain conditions and certain indicators for what makes a GOOD or EXCELLENT libs field.
ALSO how long should I spend walking through a field and not finding anything before I walk somewhere else, i.e. if I'm in a field with libs in it, will there be a lot - will it become apparent quite quickly?
Any help would be muchly appreciated!
I'm in Southern Peak District UK near Ashbourne btw if that helps if you can tell me what kind of areas/habitats I should be in.
All the best

Hi,
I find libs are way easier spotted on fields with super short grass. Especially when it hasn't rained for a few days as their caps appear bright yellowish when they are dry.
Once you've developed an eye for them you'll spot them from far away by just walking along a fence without actually being on the field. This can come in Handy if you don't want to be spotted by the Farmer.
But yeah, the biggest libs you'll find in high grass. At least in my experience.

There aren't really any satisfying answers to your questions, apart from that liberty caps might grow anywhere where grass is present, especially in places with tussock (Deschampsia cespitosa) and the star moss (Campylium stellatum), that are humid but not too wet.
The best thing you can do, is to just get out there, walk slowly around with your eyes fixed on the ground. Patience is the key here, don't rush it, if you walk just a bit too fast through those fields you are likely to miss out. They are evasive and blend very easily in with the background.
The presence of other mushrooms often indicate there might be some libs around the same area.

I found some yesterday! Yeah I'm near Ashbourne, keep looking my friend, they do exist! I tried some different fields than I normally do and found some, not quite enough for me and my girlfriend - going out today and hoping I can find some more.

Did you find anymore Nigel. I have been looking today but still no luck, I am looking in low ground fields, do you think that’s my problem or just need more rain.
