Jar Not Bouncing Back
    #26968773 - 10/04/20 09:16 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I shook this jar over a week ago with some others.  It seems the others bounced back better than this one.  I can’t remember 100% but that may have been the 2nd shake for this one.  Maybe it’s just me and it will bounce back better soon.  It definitely looks like mycelium but it looks weaker and not as bright yet.  I had another jar never bounce back after shake.

So I’m thinking it’s either contam, grain too wet, multiple shakes?!? And if it IS contam, what contam would it be to not make it smell bad or show up as different color? I understand cobweb is s Any feedback would be welcomed thanks.

Could just be bacterial. If a jar doesnt recover well, I just toss it. No reason to worry on it or try to identify the contam if it's not obvious.

I think many newer cultivators think that bacterial spawn will always smell. I've had spawn that I know is bacterial based off the way it looks or recovers that will smell fine. It is not foolproof. It's just a nice extra test. Kinda like how the shake test isn't 100% accurate either.

That explains a lot thank you! Definitely something I wanted to know.

Also curious, do you toss the whole jar when you have a contam or are you able to reuse it?

If it struggles to recover there is an issue...could be any of the causes you mentioned in your post, even too dry can cause stalling.

It's not cobweb.

I always try to reuse my jars as much as possible.

Clean jars out like the dirty dishes they are. If you allow for something scary to thrive,  for whatever reason, then you can run it through the PC before unloading. Anything you PC properly will be dead.
