I confess, the urge or pull of wanting to cultivate can make one lose sight on reality!

Dump that moldy one out ASAP!

I did the same thing to learn about contam but the next step is the whole jar being green overnight and then when you open it a thick cloud of green spores poofs out and swirls around.

I can’t even bring myself to open them past a certain point now. They just go into the pyramid of untouchable jars in the garage.

I’m confess, I used to have the same approach. Here is a no ā€œgreen poof spore bombā€ tek:

Grab some nasty jars you’re afraid of opening.
Fill a tote half way with hot water. Add a couple of big squirts of dish soap. Agitate the water with your hands until there is about a 3-4ā€ layer of soap bubbles over the entire surface. One jar at a time submerge the jar and slowly unscrew the lid till water starts to seep in. Hold it under water with the lid part way on until the jar is filled with water... is no longer buoyant. Repeat this until you’ve got no more than six nasty jars in there.  Now take the kids all the way off... use gloves if you’re squeamish.  If necessary use a spoon to liberate what doesn’t come out on its own. Keep the jars under at all times. Any random spores In bubbles will hit the soap bubble layer and be trapped. Remove the jars when they are empty. You should have a half tub of disgusting soapy water... either pour this in a hole out side or pour it a couple of gallons at a time into your toilet and flush between loads.

Now go to work on that pyramid of nasty jars in the garage!
:cannotunsee:

Bookmarking that dirty bubble tek Psilo! Great idea. A few days ago I went into the woods and dumped a jar that had the green and I still felt uneasy about coming inside after doing that.

Will be doing this from now on

I confess, I just started harvesting multiple tubs and realize I need more than just one presto dehydrator... Having to leave some tubs to get extra mature just so I can dry the other ones :facepalm3:

Confession time! I confess that I gave up mycology about a month ago, or at least putting as much time towards it as I was. Depression came in and hit me hard and shook me from this hobby. I thought I beat it the last time I posted in here, but it came back after my second wind and I just didn't have the tenacity to keep going. After spending so much time cleaning and pressure cooking absolutely everything I could I still wound up with a fuck ton of bacterial plates. I just said fuck it, I'm gonna try to just stick to myself and not go on shroomery anymore, I felt and still kind of feel everything I've done is luck and I don't deserve my mushroom ratings, but whatever.

I've been just letting these old plates go and completely forgot about them until this morning. I looked at the natalensis plates and holy fuck is whatever this is interesting. I think it's safe to say that I'm probably going to make plates today.

I'm sorry if it seems stupid but this is my first pin in a plate, so I'm kind of stoked.

I also love the rhizomorphs on this variation/species/whateverthefuck, like they're really reaching.

That's fucking beautiful.

The shroom doesn't care how we feel. It just has to live, and grow. There's a positive lesson in that.

Planning on it son, just gotta clean out the other contaminated plates.

I dont think I'm the first person to do this but I haven't read it anywhere, but I've been pressure cooking my contaminated ziploc minis for like an hour at 15 psi and dumping out the old agar. Then I pour more plates. My thought behind it was killing off spores and shit because obviously I'm not trying to open those things up, especially when I've been having contamination issues.

I don’t envision opening a plate with a spot of mold is much worse than discovering a spot of mold on a block of cheese. It’s gross but ya pitch it quick and don’t worry too much.

I know this is gonna sound crazy, but you changed your furnace filters lately? Like upgraded to the nice 3M filters?

I mean....if we're gonna go overboard and what not

I confess....I actually did this once for the same reason :laugh2:

My first vtek project failed but I think that was my fault...however I’m not super confident in the spawn. I dunno if it’s contamed or just weak or weird but something seems off. Got 12 quarts just about ready so I was gonna pasteurize some stuff up and give em a try regardless. Otherwise it’s back to the prints for me. It’s a wild so hopefully I can get something to come up.

I have recently but that's more because of dust and stuff thats made its way into my hvac because of construction by my house. I think I've changed em twice in the last month. I've also changed my workspace back to the bathroom that doesn't have an hvac vent other than the exhaust. I keep that off though, so I've started just chilling in there for a few while waiting for the air to kind of settle.

I confess...
I feel for you and with you. I’ve been there. I think you should also see those Natalensis plates as a sign! The shrooms are telling you there is life within ready to burst out.  Start very small and be obsessive about technique.  Transfer that pin clone to some agar very carefully. Transfer some of that mycelium to a few pints or half pints of carefully prepped grain. Do a tiny grow in a 1-2 quart deli container or go ā€œbigā€ with a shoebox.

If any of this messes up it isn’t a lot to lose and not as depressing. If you succeed you’ve proved to yourself you still got it without putting in a huge effort or risking a lot of materials.  We are here to help!
