Possible to save seedlings after mold contamination?
    #26968101 - 10/03/20 07:10 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I've been battling some mold contamination for a while now...  I started spraying a copper based fungicide which seemed to do pretty well, but then I noticed the other day that a weak powdery mold was covering the entire seedling container.  So I sprayed it down with some 3% hydrogen peroxide, some more copper fungicide, and removed the suranwrap.  It seems to be gone now and the seedlings are looking healthy, except the roots have rotted off and most have fallen over.  Is there any way to save them?

I don't see any mold or fungus, maybe algae.

Tbh, they look like they need more light but since they have been in low light for so long it will need to be done SLOWLY or they will be incinerated. The soil is too chunky and muddy. I would mix up either 1:2:2 vermiculite:coir:dirt, or 6:4:(1-2) vermiculite:coir:dirt, wet it down, and transplant. I haven't had any problems with either and use 1:2:2 for more nutrient content.

Transplanting is how I saved a lot of my initial seedlings when I was using bad medium, having too much shade, and had fungal problems for it. It's tedious moving hundreds, but moving a dozen or so should be fairly easy. Small guide below.

As for the roots rotting off, I suspect it was little gnat/worms that ate them. They will regrow but I recommend transplanting.
