Habitat: horse dung, north east USA Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.
Gills: motted Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.
Stem: ~6β tall, purple Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.
Cap: 1.5β Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.
Spore print color: black Very important!
Bruising: Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.
Other information: these are throwing me for a loop because of their purple stem and very large size. Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

I'm betting it's Panaeolus Papilonaceus (aka Pan pap's). Please wait until a TI comes along as I am just learning .

I had that thought as well initially, especially because of the flecks on the cap margins and the general cap shape, but the stem color being so purple on both of them is throwing me.

That is strange, I agree. But if you look up pics of pan paps you can find some (which may even be other inactive pans inaccurately tagged).

I think youβre right. Ive never seen paps look like these so I just figured Iβd throw it up here just in case I was missing something.. Itβs my first year finding actives and Iβm still learning every day. Thanks for the help!

Panaeolus papilionaceus. The red to purplish stipe is one thing I look for to seperate these from other pans along with the "saw tooth" margin
