Laughing Jim?
    #26955555 - 09/26/20 04:49 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

This was growing from the bae of a dead tree stump in Southeast England woodland.

Is it a laughing Jim and are they active?

It does look to be a  gym species.

Unfortunately gyms in the uk are not active to my knowledge.

If it has a ring, as it appears, I'd call it G. junonius. According to Alan, G. junonius is not active, and what
was previously believed to be an active variety, is apparently a different species which looks very similar, and which
grows in the US and Japan.

G. purpuratus does apparently grow there, but I don't think it is very common.

No, that's not an active species. And even if it was, it would probably be very weak, and the taste is extremely bitter.

I Was Cube Hunting Once & I Stumbled Across Some Brownish Mushrooms Growing In The Grass, So I Reached Down & Picked One, & Took A Big Wiff.

I Gagged Immediately, They Smelled Legitimately Like Raw Sewage & They Were So Waterlogged I Couldn't Identify Them.

I agree with Gymnopilus junonius. Not active, but still very beautiful. I know some people who don't mind the smell/taste of gymns so much, I think its down to personal preference

Thanks a lot for all the input. I does smell rather strong. I think I’ll pass this time , especially when there are tons of Russula and Amanita rubescens around at the moment.
If it was active then maybe.

Thanks again 👍🏻🍄👍🏻
