First of all, don't drill holes in your tub hoping to drain the CO2.  That is such crap that people repeat because they heard it, it's crazy.  If that were really the case, we would all be suffocating because the closer to the earth you got, the most CO2 would sink down there and the oxygen just floats to the upper atmosphere.  Doesn't work like that on earth and also doesn't work like that in your tub.

Secondly, B+ is pretty notorious for high yields.  In fact it's my #2 most efficient type to grow out of everything I've done.

Unless you have a crazy number of tubs going in an enclosed area, CO2 build up isn't going to be the issue.

You're measuring CO2 ppm in a monotub?
I know people that don't even do this on their farm.
what r u doing here am confused

I'm sorry bud, but this explanation is seriously flawed. Tubs and planets don't compare in any way.. co2 on earth is used by plants, absorbed by wated and what not. Also co2 in the atmosphere is unbelievably low in comparison to what you get in a tub where the only (hopefully) organism inside uses up oxygen and excretes co2.

Also using high loosely stuffed and low tightly stuffed holes do allow for better air circulation.

Let's see a pic of your tubs. Instead of measuring co2 I bet we could tell you exactly why your performance was subpar just by using eyeballs.

You dont need holes in a plastic tub to grow wall to wall shrooms.

While I agree wholeheartedly that CO2 meters are not needed whatsoever, I do need to put holes in tubs if I want good results.

All my pics are too old. I should spawn some tubs before I debate further...

Everyone should go spawn some tubs, I got some I need to get off my ass and get done.

Honestly I think that genetics is the real solution. Find a good yielding clone that likes how you do things and the conditions you are able to consistently provide. My F2 RW clone never failed me, always a good result.

Right, I'm not saying CO2 doesn't build up in a tub, it absolutely does.  Just saying that people that say drilling holes in the bottom to "drain" CO2 don't know what they are talking about.  In practice drilling holes might work because it's just additional ventilation and fresh air coming in from the bottom, but CO2 draining out the bottom because it's heavier than oxygen is absolutely not correct.  It it were, you could just get a giant container of air, let it settle and get CO2 from the bottom and oxygen from the top (not the case).

Again, CO2 will absolutely build up (and rather quickly) if you are growing in an enclosed space, I'm just saying CO2 doesn't drain out the bottom of a tub because it's heavier, that's all.  I'm one of the super nerds that probably monitors CO2 a little too closely.  hah

My monotub TEK resulted in excellent B+ yields every time in various sized boxes. For every other variety I tried (Amazonian, Hawaaian, Mexican, Mazatapec, GT), the outcome was between mediocre and horrible.

The main issues were bad recovery and colonization in the coir and dwarf mushrooms that open their caps early.

There are plenty of details to improve. While I know I should try a higher substrate:spawn ratio and be more patient at the spawn colonization, I think the main issue might be too much FAE.

I’m using unmodified boxes (14, 20, 60L) with wires below the lids to make gaps.

I’ll obviously try using smaller gaps soon. I wouldn’t need to open a thread to discuss that. I brought it up here because I dialed the size of the gaps based on an advice I read at multiple sources when I started growing mushrooms.

It was that the CO2 concentration should stay below 800ppm at fruiting.

In my experience, the gaps needed to stay not-so-much-above 800ppm provide so much FAE that requires spraying twice a day otherwise it dries out in no time. And that’s true from colonization to the last flush. The B+ seems okay with that but the rest are not.

Having holes on at the bottom of the monotub could help since CO2 is heavier than the air. Before I go on that route, I would like to know whether the 800ppm CO2 advice is outdated.

In the beginning, I used to have greenhouses from a well-known mushroom store. They worked well with PF (until they broke). Not only the B+ loved them. But I could never bring down the CO2 to 800ppm using quote strong the air pumps.

So what is the truth about the CO2 level?

Dwarf shrooms with early open and weird caps in my experience is too wet a substrate.

there is no such thing as too much fresh air, just not enough maintenance lol, u could grow on your kitchen table if you mist enough. Cubensis are notvery picky about conditions though, I've pulled 34 grams from a cake I forgot to birth which isn't far off from a typical birthed cake.
a lot of issues tend to stem from substrate prep like too wet or too dry  or genetics and last but not least not so clean spawn.
when you find a clone it's far easier to dial your methods in because you get a baseline for your expectations

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn

Yeah I could probably fruit a cake in a clothes dryer if I lived in the land of whale farts and trees

Anytime one says “I had too much FAE” it should translate into “I wasn’t able to maintain surface conditions due to a lack of dialing in my fruiting strategy.”

if youresetting up a farm it's nice to dial everything in precisely but growing cubes simplicity is key

I’m wondering how I ever grew a mushroom without a CO2 meter.
