Perlite rehydration advice

Hello again everyone! Been a while since I've posted. I've largely grasped the concept of the BRF cakes and using the SGFC with great success! Had a decent yield from B+ spores from about 5 cakes. A little disappointed with the trip feedback I received but that's a different story. ANYHOW, I now have 2 cakes that are currently pinning like crazy in the SGFC (went with PE this time) but I have 7 more PE cakes that are about 100% colonized and ready to be dunked/rolled and introduced into the SGFC (today or tomorrow). My concern is the perlite. I want to rehydrate it before introducing these other cakes to ensure optimal humidity since PE can take a bit longer to fruit. Should I remove the pinning cakes and rehydrate? Should I just dump more water into the SGFC without disturbing the pinning cakes? What's my best course of action?

you can take the cakes out and set them aside and rehydrate the perlite. I use a hand sprayer or shower to get even coverage.

That's exactly what I use too! 🤣 ok great. Just didn't want to run the risk of contam by taking the cakes out.

I use to throw the perlite in a bucket and cover with water and mix in a cap or two full of bleach and let sit for an hour or so.. then strain with... wait for it... a strainer and then rinse and put back in the tub. The little bit of bleach smell gave me a little peace of mind Lol. Nothing worse than rank smelling tubs because of jacked perlite
