Surface conditions check
    #26967192 - 10/03/20 09:03 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Question about surface conditions. Hey everyone, i switched my spore vendor and i finally have a "promising"  grow started. I noticed today that pins are popping up everywhere except the two front corner areas of my tub. These two areas are also discolored and dryer then the rest of the tub. Anyways im wondering if anyone knows what caused that and if theres a way to fix it at this stage of the grow. Its not contamination right? It looks like myco piss from a distance but its not. Maybe to much air getting in to front corners? Or not enough? Idk. But yeah if anyone knows what it is and or if theres a way to fix it, or if its no big deal, or a contam please let me know. Thanks everyone! Mush love! Oh yeah theyre Golden Teachers from multi spore syringe if anyones wondering. Substrate is coco coir, vermiculite, and cow manure.

Before you start...Do you have a Pressure Cooker and a Dehydrator? I highly recommend getting both!

Those corners look like they dried so much that myc is dying. I don't think the colony will fruit on those spots at all. Conditions seem good in the middle tho.

I agree....might be too late. The yellowing is a good indicator of super dry conditions.

Hey Josex, yeah its a dubtub. How often should i be opening and fanning at this stage? Right now im doing it every 12hrs, twice a day, for about 30 seconds

Next time, lose the dubtub at least until you have a pinset. Until then, the lid the box came with is going to be more than enough. It will let enough air in without drying things out. I think your problem was the dubtub itself, it allowed too much air in and dried things faster than desired.

You never need to fan, this is not a PF-tek cake, and only mist when needed. Next time use the lid and I doubt you'll need to mist until you have a pinset.

At this stage just leave the dubtub on and only mist if you see those drops  on the surface dissipating somewhat. Just let it do its thing, it's gonna be ok. Also, don't stress much over those drying patches, they're way gone imo.

Thanks Josex, i appreciate all the advice! Sounds good! I thought about leaving the lid on until pinning but once it colonized i got scared that not enough water was escaping and it was to wet so at that point i dubbed it. But next time ill leave lid on till pinning. So dont open it at all at this point? Itll get enough FAE like that? There is small gap between tubs about 1/16 inch to maybe an 1/8 inch, is that good for FAE or should i put something heavy on it to close gaps completely? Last question i promise, lol. Ive just had so many fails im really anxious to get this one right. Thanks again Josex!

Yeah those gaps are going to be enough, maybe a bit too much so be careful, keep an eye on it and mist only if you notice that those nice beads on the surface are dissipating. So no, no need to be opening it at all unless you need to mist or just want to take a gander to check surface conditions.
Congrats on your first pins.
