Filthy spore syringe

Hey friends. I'll start with some back story so I don't get flamed too bad for other mistakes I've made :P
I only have 1 grow under my belt from MS which was rushed and despite learning a lot I still have a lot to learn! I am now practicing with agar, taking my time, and learning a ton. Remade some plates like 3 times because I kept screwing it up, but now I'm on track! My issue right now is I'm wondering if it's possible that a spore syringe might be too filthy to clean up with transfers. I am trying to clean up some APE which, from what I understand, is inherently very dirty due to the method of spore extraction. I fucked up the plate a bit when I put the drop in and it slid off to the side. I have 6 plates going right now because I did 2, then 2 the next day, and 2 the next, improving my agar and technique each time. And because the more plates I make the faster it grows right? (Also learning patience )
Below is some growth from one of the first plates. I used a syringe from a very reputable sponser. It looks absolutely awful. This is a great pic, but I think I lost a lot of resolution during the upload, so there's also a close up. Hope it's clear enough. I couldn't get a great pic from underneath but you can see the black a lot more from there.

It looks like nice growth mixed with some nice dark mold colored shit.
Do you think there is a chance to save this with my unskilled hands? I have 6 shots at it right now with the 6 plates I made. The 2 I did on this day look the same, that awful black mess growing right along with the myc. Figure I'd give it another 5-7 days of growth before thinking of a transfer.
Thanks!

The close up pic doesn't look like mycelium at all, more like mold. APE can be a bitch to get going but worth the work. Are you working on anything else in the meantime? Might save you from getting overly frustrated.

Well dang. Yes, I am working on some other stuff too. Honestly it looks the same as my other clean cultures other than the black. All of my cultures seem rather fuzzy for some reason. Not enough FAE?
Here is King Oyster (the black you see is permanent marker on the underside for a more seamless transfer):

And Black Poplar:

I also have some old ass LCs of Teacher and B+ that I'm trying to revive on some plates. Got a good dozen or so plates going

Well this guy, albeit hard to see, is a happy APE culture right now!! Threw out 4 plates and have 2 left that look more promising. Stoked!!

That culture (first one) is fubar as a mofo. You may be able to clean it but sometimes it's trickier than it's worth. Did you streak any plates? If not, i'd suggest doing a couple properly streaked plates and seeing what you get.
I haven't tried germing ape in a good long while. I should give her a swing. There is no reason why a vendor would be able to put out nice clean ape spores. I guess they're just getting lazy.

Thanks Verum, always appreciate your input. I ended up tossing those garbage plates. These last 2 plates I have going were honestly going to be my last shot before streaking, and it looks like I got lucky with this little fuzzball. Looks much healthier
In the future I will likely streak spores going forward. I guess that's what I essentially did noccing up 6 plates lol. Was just a waste of material. Lesson learned.

What do you mean? Very interested. I just ordered an APE syringe for the first time. This will be my first time working with a mutant.

he means that they seem generally to come with dirty syringes or swabs and must be clean on agar.

And sometimes they revert and you don't get APE. I tried half a dozen times with swabs that were either too dirty to clean or reverted. Finally hit pay dirt with a vendor syringe and T4. A full year of work.

Yup, everything I'm working with is contaminated AF. The cultures I got from my buddy, the spore syringe. Bah. No more messing around.
