Bonk's Bar or Syd Booker's Shrimp Corner appear to be your seafood dive type of place that is affordable yet also highly thought of. They're both listed here in this Philadelphia Inquirer article of best Philly seafood restaurants.

You mean I did that google search for nothing? I sacrificed blood, sweat and tears typing that into the search bar.

Philly cheese steaks are kind of garbage though, at least if you get them with Cheese whiz like all the natives love. It seems places outside of Philly have evolved the cheese steak into a respectable sandwich. That's just Philly being Philly though.

Garbage food is what every city has for a specialty. The local garbage.... Will most likely kill you if you eat it 3 days in a row. A roller-coaster ride between the sugar rush and sugar crash. Salty enough to go from normal to high blood pressure.
My local garbage is called a beavertail. It's like pizza made out of sugar. Plenty of flavors all meant to rapidly kill you.

I respectfully disagree. I'm a Philly native turned North Jerseyite and they can't make a cheesesteak to save their lives up here. One place tried to pass off a roll with one flat piece of steak-umms on it and 2 pieces of american cheese. That's it.
I miss the Amoroso rolls, freshly/finely chopped ribeye, and that gooey cheeze whiz surrounding each little piece of beef. Mushrooms whiz wit all the way for this guy.

Represent! Nothing like a good ol' wiz wit but a good steak can also be had with provo or american, especially if it's pre-melted before being rolled on dem jawns. It's easy to find a delicious steak in the two one fifth if you know where to go.
Sorry the trip did'nt work out for you tRrf. If it happens and you got some coin to spend then perhaps Moshulu, where you get to eat seafood on an actual ship!
People talk trash on Philly too much.
