Stoked to have found this patch. It’s very hidden and I will never be bothered. What a score.

Thanks pal. I see you've added a few patches to the collection lately as well.

Also i wanted to pose a question to you guys... What do you think causes these guys exhibit such different physical traits, like the chalk white stipe and dark blue caps. Is it genetic variety or environment?

It would likely be environmental. Rains could wash wash the white off the stipe, too much water or too dry could bruise the caps, growing too fast can deform them, not enough airflow (low winds or blocked air) could cause thin stipes and small caps, too much sun could cause them to be short and fat.... theres a thousand variables man

I think it is a mix of environmental and genetic.

I have been playing around with oyster mushroom buckets lately. I have two different sources I got my original spawn from but the same species. I did a flush inside and they both looked different from each other. Same color, light gray, but one(bucket a) had a more girthy stipe and a smaller but large cap while the other(Bucket b) had huge caps with a smaller stipe. Same species.

I took those same buckets and put them outside while it was cool and wet. Both flushed well. Bucket a had deep bluish gray craps with huge caps with almost no stipe. Bucket B had even larger flush than inside with a dark gray cap and almost no stipe again.

I know this is hard to visualize as I didn’t take photos but I can say that both environment and genetics play a big role in the mushrooms.

I know totally different species but same rules apply.

The silver/blue ones on the left are from my backyard on the slope under pine trees. The ones on the right that are more brown/ a little sun-baked, are from one of my spots with pines on top of a slope.  The ones on the L seem to always come out that color and have the fat white stipe.  They’ve been the strongest I’ve had so far.  I feel like it’s a little bit of environment/genetic combo that does it, but this is just my opinion.

The biggest cap is a little over 4inches to give ya an idea.

Thought I found a clutch of them today.  No dice.  Ended up finding some pins though that I ended up picking since they're in a high traffic area.

Its far more environment than genetics in my opinion. When you grow these indoors they look wildly different. Unrecognizable, even. Temperature, substrate, airflow, sunlight, even insects can all affect how the fruit bodies look. An interesting experiment you can try: next time you find ones with carmel caps, pick them and place them in direct sunlight and see how quickly they turn cream colored. I did this the other day and mine only took about two hours to change from caramel-brown to a light cream color. Pretty neat to see that.

It seems to be both.
The Georgia and South Carolina varieties I'm familiar with look quite different from each when raised in the same substrate and conditions. And I'm sure within the Georgia population there is some amount of variation from area to area. With some species several distinct phenotypes can arise from a single print, although caerulescens tends to look fairly consistent and monotypic.
On top of that cloned fruit can vary depending on  the substrate type and amount, temp, and humidity.

You guys are killing down there!! And your season is still a couple of months? I'm loving all the pics, they are one of the most beautiful species imho.

Wow this thread is incredible! I had no idea georgia was on the map like this lol. This will be my second fall season searching, still unsuccessful so far. I mostly see people in the northern metro counties, does anything good ever pop up in south gwinnett or lower or should I expand my search a bit more? I will admit I was probably looking in less than ideal habitats last season but I think I'm more on track this year after browsing a bit here
