Maine Becomes First State To Try Ranked-Choice Voting for President

Voting for Libertarian, Green, or independent candidates will not mean “throwing your vote away.”
This would be HUGE if it catches on in other states. This would finally give 3rd parties a real shot at President.

That's good news for the system but I don't think it's not going to do anything for the Libertarians or the Greens, who are irrelevant in American politics. I think I voted for both of those and also Joe Hall and the Communist Party in college.
IMO ranked-choice voting will be much more significant for independents who come out of nowhere, the George Wallace's, John Anderson's, Bernie Perot's and Ralph Nadar's etc. They may have run under some party banner, but it was really all about them, a personal charisma thing.
IDK, it remains to be seen when and if an established 3rd party will ever have a chance.

Why not? There's SO many people here telling us not to waste our vote on those parties, and with rank choice voting, you would no longer have to worry about 'wasting' your vote anymore.

Its worth a shot. We have tried the same system and its in desperate need of a revamp.

This is awesome, and I agree, Falcon- I really, really hope this is effective and catches on.
Exactly- Everyone trying to make a statement by not voting can now be heard. So many are scratching their heads at the quality of our presidential candidates.. The entire system is so obviously broken, and I think this is a great step in proper direction.
Am quite interested to see how this evolves. Hell yeh, Maine!!

Blame the electoral college system, which essentially makes more than two parties not feasible

I agree.
We do have more parties, but the rest don't have money, power, or many voters.
IDK. UK has four parties that seem to nicely fit the four segments of the sane political spectrum; Tories (Conservative), Liberal, Social Democrat and Labour (Socialist), but nobody seems to vote for the two in the middle.
