Mycelium Temp VS Room Air Temp
    #26960830 - 09/29/20 06:38 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

I’ve read a lot of varying reports that say mycelium can be anywhere from 2-10 degrees warmer inside the jar vs outside air.  I’ve searched around but haven’t found any reliable science on the matter.  Have there been any controlled studies with this?

Everything living is exothermic. Grain and sub are shitty conductors of heat. Don't need a study to prove that.

I run an AC to keep my temperature at or close to 70° works good

If you're really curious about that you could always just measure the temp outside of the jar with a meat thermometer and compare that to the temp inside of the jar after you stab the colonized substrate with the meat thermometer. Whenever I'm really curious about something I just go and check for myself :super:

I monitored the condition of inside a tub vs surrounding air

It was like 2 degrees, it's probably similiar in jars.

People do have those laser temp guns though, maybe one of them will chime in, but that's the best I got for you.

But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go
If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow
That it's one thing to try and another to fly
You get there quicker just a step at a time
It's one thing to bark, another to bite
The show ain't over till you pack up at night

Thank you everyone!  I got a thermometer.  Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll report back what I find.

The amount of condensation should correlate to the temperature difference. It tends to increase as the mycelium continues to colonize. I've never tried actually measuring the temperature difference though.
