Edible honey mushroom?Armillaria sp?
    #26964391 - 10/01/20 05:49 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Found these growing on a tree stump by the side the road. Seems the town recently cut down a bunch of trees in that neighborhood and it was growing on one of the stumps of the cut down trees.

Armillaria?

Originally thought it was Armillaria tabescens but it looks like there are rings.

Those are Armillaria.

If you're going to eat them, be certain they're *thoroughly* cooked. If they're not cooked enough you'll get really sick.

Happy mushrooming!

It helps to blanch them before cooking.

Any recipes you have to recommend? Tried it for the first time, I know you said blanch but we boiled them for like 10-15 minutes then fried them with garlic and shallots.

They came out tasting like chewy nothing haha, maybe it was the boiling?

I don't particularly care for them but boiling them isn't going to do the taste or texture any favors.  They give me a belly ache so I don't really eat them anymore.
