Thrift store addicts unite and post your finds * 3
    #26964130 - 10/01/20 03:31 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I know I can't be the only thrifting addict 'round these parts.  Personally, I've made thousands reselling stuff I've found.  That, and furnished my place (nicely, I might add) completely with thrift store finds.

At the moment, I'm typing on an Apple 27in LED Cinema Display (MC007LL/A) in perfect condition I picked up for $30.  I'm staring at a 65" HD tv I got for $40. Using a pair of Infinity speakers and a Klipsch speaker system on my computer, all my art on the walls including a huge original oil painting of France, multiple killer acoustic guitars including a Mitchell MD100 I'm about to post for sale after I install a new pick guard.  Synths, home audio equipment, bikes, cameras (including a point and shoot I bought for $3 and sold for $250), record players, etc etc.

Thrifting has been my favorite thing to do for the past 2 years, mainly because they're just so amazing in my city.

Right now I'm cleaning up a pair of Salomon ST One aggressive inline skates (fruit booters!) that sell for $150+ online (see the photo).  A few months ago I sold a pair of a different brand for $250!

Any other thrifters in the house?  Post your finds!  Share your favorite flipping stories.  I have a ton.

I buy clothes there sometimes. Not to sell, just to wear. It's the only place I can find corduroy.

Corduroy makes me feel sexxy.

I haven't bought new clothes in years.  I wear thrift down to the socks.  Last corduroy thing I owned was a pair of dark brown pants that eventually split in the crotch.

I'll carry this thread myself if I have to, for the love of thrifting.

Picked up this totally rad Dri Best dehydrator from the thrift today. It was made in 1976 and seems to have seen very little use, if any. Also has a thermostat and manual. Crazy, right? Perfect timing, for sure. I paid $24.

Measures 24 x 18 x 15

Thrift stores are meh near me. Although years ago I picked up 2 gen1 iPods for like 2 dollars each(they were in small child toys section) and one was the special edition black and red U2 version somewhere in my attic. Oh I also got a couple complete hardback book series for like under $2 a book before.....damn now I want to go to the thrift store tomorrow as I havent been in years lol

The thrill of the hunt...

I don't flip much, but I've found a few rare-ish NES games that raked in a few bucks.  Made a decent turnaround on a photo enlarger.  Some old junk PCs vintage gaming gear can be worth the time.

These rags of mine I bought new.  Corduroy is très sexxxy, this is true, but I simply don't have the patience to shop for thrift clothes.
I have picked up lots of quality hand tools, Snap-On without the predatory sales tactics. Got some pretty dern nice insulated steel-toed wellies.  Used to love hunting for organs, but thrift stores around me don't seem to have them anymore. No more Lowrey Genie concerts in the furniture section. :frown:

Yeah, I also feel pretty meh about the thrift stores around me in general these days.  But I've always scored better in the dumpster diving events.

I've seen obliviously well off yuppie moms in the aisles of Goodwill trying to train their kids with e-bay open via the newest smart phone in hand lecturing their children on what is valuable for resale, and it is just irksome and tacky? to me.

As a collector of a certain niche item of a genre of discontinued media, I've found it extremely frustrating that in the past few years, the act of people snatching up all they can find(usually at thrift stores)of said type of media that was considered completely worthless years ago and reselling on e-bay at incredibility inflated prices is getting on my nerves.

I wonder what their secret is?  No matter how much I jack up the price on my Garbage Pail Kids cards on ebay, nobody ever buys them.

Personally, I buy what I'm familiar with, interested in or stuff that catches my eye quality wise.  Even still, I only buy what I can make at least $100 on or so and rarely do I spend over $20 to make $100.

I buy a lot less than I once did, focusing more on making more off fewer items.  That being said, I don't focus on any area in particular.

I go to the thrift store for books.  I only buy those without a broken spine.  I'll pass on a broken spine even if I need the book.  I'll find it elsewhere.

Thrift store have a distinct smell of poverty.  They all smell the same.

Once, just once, I found a Texas Instruments TI-99/4. I didn't really want it cluttering up my place, so I didn't buy it. And I've been kicking myself for not buying it ever since. I regretted not getting it probably the same day. I've never found anything like that again either.

I've posted this before but I found a pair of Wallace 1930's something silver goblets, all dented and tarnished at a thrift shop for $5...

they sold for something like 395 grams of silver for $250.. I forget but it was a nice chunk... 2 years ago- goodwill find.

Let's avoid that.

Anyways, besides the $5 to $250 find I made, I also found some nice sterling at garage sales and other thrift stores.

I'm probably about at $600 profits as a part time hobby....But all these finds were 2-3 years ago...

I don't thrift anymore because of the Rona
