Contam on cake mid-fruit: What should I do?

I have a cake that is showing some obvious signs of contamination. It is on the mycelium itself, not the brf. It is in my SGFC with 6 other cakes, all are currently fruiting. Can I cut out the contamination? Should I remove the cake from the FC to prevent cross-contamination? Attached is a pic of said contam. Any advice on the appropriate action would be appreciated. Thank you so much.

I'd say if anything take the cake out. Contams are pretty hard to deal with when it comes to BRF cakes. Just try and get a good healthy yield out of the rest in the chamber.

Take the bad cake and break it up in a flower pot with potting soil. Should be 1:1 or less soil. If you have manure around, use that too. Keep the flowerpot somewhere away from your main grow room to prevent cross contam. Mist the top with water whenever it looks dry. In a few weeks you should get some fruits.

Fuck, I’m now seeing just a little bit of the same contam on the rest. Are they salvagable? Can I treat it with something? There’s only little specks. Will the spread?

If you are before the first flush you might be able to get some fruits before the contam gets too bad. However if it starts to spread quicker then it fruits I would recommend flower potting it. I could be wrong but it looks like you might have the trich contam. Trich flourishes in controlled environments like fruiting chambers. If you flower pot it, the trich should move slower then the mycelium. Ive also heard of people treating contams by spraying the affected area with hydrogen peroxide so you might want to look into that more. Personally Id skip that and go for the flowerpots.

Interesting. Yes this is my first flush. Considering your advice, I am currently debating on pasteurizing some coir, putting it in 2 trays, breaking all the cakes up and spawning them in “bulk” inside the trays in the FC. Thoughts? I’d like to avoid the flower pots as I have limited space.

I'd say some revising on your fruiting conditions should also be on your list, but yeah the flower pot tactic has worked before and is better than just waisting all that time colonizing.

Unfortunately I have no ability to revise my fruiting conditions. Unless the revision includes altering my most/fanning schedule. Otherwise, my FC is in the only location it can be in, I bleached and washed the walls of my closet. I don’t know what else I can do beyond that. I can lift the lid less as I fan and mist, but that’s the most I can do. So no go for the trays? It won’t have the same effect as the flower pots?

If I transfer it, what do I do with the current pins? Transfer them as well or harvest them now?

When you're fanning and misting, you're spreading the spores of the things you don't want to move: though that's already happened by now.
Move the bad cakes out and try the flowerpot thing if you can (as Hikeadellic seems to be a big proponent of it ).
But you're best to cut loses inside and try again rather than fight a losing battle.
Or go balls to the wall, try and clean cakes, FC setup, and perlite and reset. You've got nothing to lose but time and effort.

I love flower pots because it requires very little prep. When you go through all the time and effort of preparing a legit bulk substrate, you want to use fresh clean spawn to give it the best chance of working. Flowerpots are good for your bad/shot mycelium and take less then five minuets to make. Save the coir and stuff for future projects. You can put the flower pots pretty much anywhere, even outside although then you may run into issues like your local climate and bugs.
