Installing Security Cameras
    #26963837 - 10/01/20 01:09 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Inside.

The options are confusing.
My main concern is security- I can't have footage of me living in my home getting out to interwebz.

So hoping to have the footage go to my phone or computer, not to a cloud service.

I need to be able to retain potential media and catalog short clips.

Does anyone have any recommendations for indoor security cams? Or have any thoughts. :thanx:

I have both indoor and outdoor WIFI cameras.

They ALL store shit on a interweb cloudz. You can download it to yer device, and then delete it off da cloud man if u wish so.

You want a networked dvr system. Basically a computer with powered ethernet cables that run to the cameras. Costco/bjs have them all the time. It records to a hardrive on the dvr computer. The cameras dont need plugs cause they get voltage over ethernet. It can be connected to the web to email alerts but it doesnt have to be. Q-see is the main brand I have used, there are others but many are rebranded q-see. This is what most small businesses do. Expect to spend several hundred.
You can also buy cameras and a powered ethernet hub and run software on a computer to manage the cameras.
Wifi is another option but then the cameras need power.

I have spent just as much on 3 outdoor ring cameras as I did on a 4 camera q-see system especially when you add in the wifi extenders needed to avoid failed captures.

The ring system certainly is easier and since we did their security system at this house it made sense to have a single integrated setup.

We get cats, foxes, deer, turkey, racoons and skunks but the most amazing visit we had was when a momma bear and her three cubs climbed our ash tree this spring to eat the leaf buds. She got scared off but ended up coming back later for another go at the tree she was so hungry. Watching the way she scaled the tree like nothing and the size of the claw marks left in the tree is pretty scarry though.
