I like your split ones, it's less common to see and more visually interesting as a result.

It's like a pair of myc eyes staring back at you

Can't you just dump the divider out? I got these plates on time with absorbant pads in them. Super cheap, but I had to dump them out before pouring. Didn't notice any increase in contams. Nice find though, lucky!

25 for 800???

Man I wouldโ€™ve been set up for years lol.

Either they had a clearance sale or somebody got fired for sure.

I ordered that deal as well but they only sent me one sleeve at first. after going back and forth with several poor souls in the amazon call center I ended up with just 3 sleeves of plates in the end so they refunded me and credited me $40 for my trouble so whatever I guess. I guess my confession is that I still would have rather just got the full case of plates

actully looks like a good deal on them right now

o shit they're listed at $65 now which is still ~57% off the normal price. I wonder if they ever fixed the sleeve/case issue

the lady would kill me if another case of petri dishes shows up to this house...

I confess that that tonight I was stoked to advance from agar to grain. I had a nice puck that I went to put in a grain jar and it fell off the scalpel and landed face down on a wet towel. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ So disappointing... I put in the jar anyway but I guarantee there is no way that its not gonna contam. Oh well. I should have another nice puck ready in about a week and a half.

I confess that 10 days ago when I made that error, I picked that wedge up and put it in the jar anyway. I knew it was game over but I was being optimistic and having not seen a contaminated jar in person, thought it would be a good visual learning experience. This is that jar today.

I confess that since then, I've taken the advice given and nocced up 8 more jars with knickel-quarter sized pieces of growth and shook them when they start to show more clusters of decent growth. They all look similar to this. This one is growing a bit more aggressively than the others but isn't showing any signs of bacteria so I wont worry about it.

Last night I made 6 more transfers fom agar to grain. I have 5 plates that look like this one and a few more transfers that need to be made.

When all of the plates have filled out I'll put em in the fridge and hold onto em until I need them again. I'm being optimistic but if all the jars are suitable and don't start getting weird, I'll have plenty of g2g expansions and won't really need to do agar work for a while.

This is all B+. If this all goes well, I'll take some clones, test em out, save cultures and then get my hands on an AA+ print. I wanted to start with that but SW didn't have any available when I started this journey.

Cheers! ๐Ÿป

Dump that moldy one out ASAP!

I did the same thing to learn about contam but the next step is the whole jar being green overnight and then when you open it a thick cloud of green spores poofs out and swirls around.

I canโ€™t even bring myself to open them past a certain point now. They just go into the pyramid of untouchable jars in the garage.

Im not even gonna dump it, bro. As soon as I saw small green spots, it went outside to the shed. It will likely get tossed in a public dumpster.

I usually dump those out outside before it gets too bad and then wash the empty jar also outside. Then it's shower and wash clothes time. Never hit any major problems doing it like that

I confess that, like many others here, I now have a nose tuned to smell fresh mushrooms anywhere and everywhere.

I've had more than my fair share of confused looks when I ask others if they can smell those mushrooms while we're walking through the woods. No one else ever can smell them though... I know I'm not the only one though lol

There is a flowering shrub that smells just like oyster myc. Can't remember the name of it though. Have been fooled several times while tromping thru the woods
