Hi everyone I’ve currently been experimenting with 4 shoeboxes I’ve made up each 1 containing 1 quart jar of colonized rye and 1lb of pasteurized manure I’ve got from a well respected sight. I inoculated them 8/14/20 and on 9/22/20 is when I put 3 of them back into colonizing conditions to let them fully colonize before I expose them to “fae” fruiting conditions. I’ve heard a lot of people sag to put them straight to fruiting and some say not too, what do y’all recommend???? I have 1 tub j put straight to fruiting conditions and I’ve actually had a good amount of fruit produced but it’s not been a nice even cannopy like I was hoping. Is this because I didn’t use a casing layer? And can I put a casing layer on the 3 that I still have colonizing? 68E9868B-E09F-4FB5-A07F-08873E8CDB9E.jpg

I put right into fruiting at spawn. Most people don't use casings for cubes and get full canopies. I know genetics has a lot to do with it. But I have the best luck doing a late casing. Once my sub starts to pin I add a 1/4 inch jiffy mix casing layer. That helps me substantially.

Was it a MSS grow? I was always getting flushes like that before when I was doing MSS to grains. I have switched to agar pasty plates now and I get really even flushes. Agar is definitely the way to go. I was intimidated by it at first but when I just did it it was very rewarding. good luck my friend,

What is jiffy mix exactly and can I use like a coco coir? I want something I can possibly just put on top without having to sterilize it in a pressure cooker or anything like that. I’ve ordered all my stuff pre preped to make everything simple for the time being. Will they still colonize after I put them into frying conditions? Someone told me they will not continue to grow the white mycelium after that point?

As long as you have clean grain spawn, it will continue to grow until fruits. Jiffy mix I use for the casing layer for PE. Regular cubes just coir is fine.

Hey brother those are some nice fruit right there!!! Where do I get coir from is it the same as a coir brick? What are the steps to adding it to my shoeboxes?

I get mine at petsmart. 3 brick pack for 11-12$ I use Damions bucket tek. But I use 17 cups of water. 4 quarts boiling water plus a cup. Homedepot orange bucket 1brick. Pour in the water wait til it cools down mix it in the bucket then put it with your clean grain spawn right in the shoebox. I use a liner some people don't. But the most important thing is CLEAN GRAIN SPAWN. Coir is naturally contamination resistant. I hope this helps

No cold water. Just the 17 cups boiling water. Put the lid on the bucket. Let it cool down. Mix,Then put it together with your grain spawn mix again, save a lil coir to put on the top after you mix. Thin tho like 1/4 inch.

So instead of using the pasteurized manure with the colonized jar I’ll completely replace it with the coir?

Yeah just mix the colonized grain with the field capacity coir.
Fruiting at spawn is usually the way to go unless you’re growing PE, some people let that colonize and consolidate before fruiting.
The shrooms look great, the tub seems a little on the dry side but nothing serious.
The shrooms will mature at different rates a lot of the time unless you’ve got clones. Just harvest them as they’re ready. I usually get a couple early ones and then the rest finish pretty close together.
