A torch inside or flame inside of the sab is not a good idea. Not because you have a higher concentration of flammable vapors/liquids but rather because it moves air around. A Still Air Box needs have still air inside for it to work properly, so putting a flame inside would be counterproductive by pushing air around.

Are you responding to this thread? There isn't any reference to a flame inside. Maybe you were just reading that old thread...

Ok.. so stop using the iso on everything. That really isn't necessary. Especially having a wet one on the bottom of the sab. Your stuff doesn't have to be drenched in alcohol. Try a few sessions just using iso on your gloves and nowhere else and see how it goes. Cause that's all I use it for.

Bear in mind those alcohol vapours can be ignited not only by the flame itself but also due to the red hot metal at the end of the scalpel - especially in an enclosed space. So if you don't wait for it to cool off sufficiently before pulling it back in the SAB, that's also a way it can go boom.

Thank you Munch!
So I had to T4 some PR, Puerto Rican, because it was growing so fast or it's contam. Anyway here's a video of the side hole in action. I still plan to burn some incense and checkout airflow...
P9 already caught a sneak preview and spotted a problem in my form! The plates are sitting on Lysol wipes, they don't burn. I'm just thinking a little sticky barrier on the rack... With so many side contams, I want to position the mark on the bottom plate at 3:00. Maybe I'll get some info from that. These are Corning glass plates with markings. No towel, and a nice glass table! I like piling books on the SAB to weigh it down.

Ok analyzing stuff that I do wrong in getting transfers... Was kinda shaky today and also trying to keep distance on the scalpel.
The side hole is working great. I still need to check air currents...

Good question greenladel, and I really have to get to that experiment soon! I plan to burn incense at various locations to see!
But also to see what happens when you pull your forearm in and out too...
Edit: I have to get my SAB work down better, then explore the side hole effects. I need to get auto contams down to 5%!

good call. i am keen to see the results. i have almost no experience with SABs and growing mushrooms so i do not fully understand the potential flaws and benefits, but i can definitely see it helping keep things clean and convenient, provided the flaws do not outweigh that.
good luck. keep us updated

So I finally broke out the Jukai graduation incense present.
. Raised the light, negligible heat.
Nice straight column of incense smoke. And finally the scalpel hole is not affected. Side Hole
