Getting into genetics
    #26962440 - 09/30/20 04:54 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I’ve started using agar and I’m excited to see what yields I’ll get.
The problem is I’m not sure the proper way to isolate genetics.

I’ve read cloning helps get better and more consistent results, but too much cloning can result in genetic deterioration.

How do you properly isolate a strain without ruining the genetics and then have a strain you can use the rest of your cultivating life?

Am I better off cloning the good fruits or just taking spore prints?

Any write ups on  genetics that’ll dumb it down for me would also be appreciated.

( I cloned the biggest fruit in this picture and have made 3 transfers on agar so far )

Just find a reliable clone and learn to store it long term with slants.

Don't keep cloning a clone, just find a good one from ms

So from this current grow I have I’ll do this:

Wait till I see a mushroom I like
Take a tissue sample and put to agar
Transfer until I see uniform mycelium
Use that for my next grow.

Once the next grow is finished I’ll take a spore print, put it to agar, transfer, grow, repeat.

Is that a solid strategy for long term good yields ?

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

You can run the same clone  for years provided you know how to keep a culture alive
