Transferring cakes that already have pins: what to do with pins?
    #26962222 - 09/30/20 02:49 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I currently have some cakes pinning in my SGFC. 3 have shown some signs of contamination. I have opted to cut out the contamination and transfer the rest of the cake to a pasteurized coir tray. The issue is that the cakes already have some pins that are about a half inch long. What should I do with the pins? Should I keep them in contact with the mycelium and bury them? Should I keep them exposed over the surface of the coir? Should I harvest them first?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!šŸ™šŸŒˆ

it's an interesting experiment to keep them attached to a chuck of the cake, but I'd imagine they'd likely abort...

Do half and half as said experiment or harvest them now and shred the rest.

I'm not sure you'll get anything from a contam'd cake but time will tell.

Interesting, guess I’ll experiment. Good suggestion. They are barely even contaminated. There’s a speck of mold on them but it’s gonna spread for sure since the spores are now visible. I just wanna deal w it before it comes a problem.
