Advice for a newbie? South East UK
    #26962013 - 09/30/20 12:59 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Hiya everyone

I'm a new but very enthusiastic mushy hunter and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for someone in the south east, I'm interest mainly in wavy caps, but I am interest in all the others too. I was wondering if you could give any tips, anything is welcome but any places, areas, types of places to go to e.g lakes, fields, woodlands ect mainly for wavy gaps but please do include for anything.

I am not very experienced so please anything

Thanks everyone

Take a look on Mushroom Observer
Search your area and see what comes up
Youll quickly get a idea of what you can expect to come across
Dont ask for places...
Instead go take a look yourself
Public places//forests//parks and areas that have woodchips are a good place to start
Get out there at good times after rain ect and go have a looky see..the more you look the more youll find
Sometimes you dont even need to go far..just learn to look in the right places at the right times
Post any finds right here
There are many knowledgable TCs and other members to help with any identifications

I think wavy caps are a little harder to come across, I've never found any in UK but Ive only been hunting for a couple years.

What I do find quite often are liberty caps at this time of year, mainly on grassy hills(altitude 150m+)but they can be found in cow/sheep/goats fields and golf courses, public parks etc.
Make sure it has rained good prior a couple days before your hunt for best chances.

Theres a specific golf course near me that is always covered in them, quite a popular spot so I avoid going there.
