Hey total noob checking in.
First of all thank you and everyone who contributes to the forum with great information and questions.
I intend to update this regularly with photos
I have started a small mushroom grow at a friends house 🏡
It’s in a 54 foot insulated semi trailer.
I just finished my 80th bin.
I have never grown a single mushroom in my entire life, I’m already running into cobweb yes actual cobweb saw the you don’t have cobweb post. Two bins down to trich
78 strong đź’Ş any tips on managing a grow this size comment below.
I’ll post a video of the bins in the dark room
And a few pictures of the bins I had to throw out.
Trailer capacity stacking bins 4 high is 250 ish.
80l bins, two 1 litre jars of grain spawn, coco/pop/straw/gypsum/worm castings substrate
Pasteurize substrate in large mushroom spawn bags at 140f 2 hours 8 holes total on bins, using micropore tape
Almost all are golden teacher with first thirty bins GWM (a++)

Man you really should’ve gotten the basics down before doing something this scale. Probably gonna be a whole lot of wasted time and grain. Hopefully enough pull through to make it worth it though.
There’s another thread almost just like this from a few days ago you should read. Titled something like “100 mono grow”.

Use rye or oats. Popcorn is subpar.
Straw, gypsum, and worm castings can be omitted. All you need is grains and coco coir.
Coir doesn't need to be pasteurized. Hydrating it with boiling water suffices.

Heya, welcome. Check this out , I just use hot tap water - big time saver. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26905736
I am not gonna download anything but cannot wait for pics

OP, what is your spawn process like...you got pics of the spawn used for all these tubs?
First time making spawn and making 80 tubs is ambitious to say the least.
I'm interested to see what those jars looked like.

Doing 80 tubs with jars sounds like a lot of work
But then again, pasteurization and straw and all that extra stuff sounds like a lot of work too so maybe they are using jars
FWIW I just use hot tap water on my coir now too, I have noticed no contaminations or any problems from the switch
definitely a big time saver.
thanks filthy

What is your process for sterilizing the 1 liter jars? Throwing my support in for hydrated coir sub too. Give yourself some breathing room with that much work

jesus I was toking earlier when I posted I didn't realize they are actually using jars
bags will save you so much time
also, 2 jars spawned to each 80L tub is a pretty low spawn rate unless not using much substrate

Too much.
To be successful at that size of a grow you need to:
a) already be proficient or b) work up to that scale
—
I agree with others, your sub is overkill. Adding gypsum, worm casings, and straw x 80 bins is 240 extra steps per cycle. Not to mention the cost. Sounds like your investment is very front-heavy, so I’d watch the costs in case you have a lower success rate than expected.
What’s your dehydrator situation?

I think next batch I will go with an easier substrate
I had someone “teach” me the basics and was supposed to help but fell through.
Instead of squandering the opportunity I decided to give it a go, I work in a lab currently and do have lots of experience with cleaning, being clean, scrubbing up etc;hoping it helps out.
Haven’t bought a dehydrator here yet if you have any suggestions for a decent one was just going to get one off ULINE
As far as investment goes yeah I hope it works out lol. Fortunately for me it’s not my money it’s my responsibility to make it happen.
I have already been running into issues haha so you guys are not far off from being correct
I have had to toss 5 bins so far to trich, saw it tossed it. Also the cobweb is super lame
Realized so far substrate to wet, room too cold, and spawn wasent crazy good.
The first thirty bins were planted sept 9. The last 50 were planted yesterday.
Pictures of trich I threw out and a video of me doing a bin

I read the hundred bin thread and I’m most concerned about how to bring fresh air in.
I have 3 hepa filters running the holly ones rated for 75 sqft space running 24/7
I have the trailer completely sealed finally and was going to do some kind of hvac beyond just having the filters running.
It’s a 53 foot insulated semi trailer, broken into three partitions.
The mud room; the dark room; and the flower room.
Nothing has yet made it to the flower room. Still setting up a few t5s for lights.
My biggest problem I think is how do I bring in clean fresh air.
Clean fresh air = furnace fan plus ducting plus allergen furnace filter merv13?
Problem I have with installing something to bring air in is during winter how do I prevent the condensation from cool winter air into my warm growing space.
As it sits, my plan is to pump fresh air into mud room clean with hepa filters and then push that air into dark room and flower room Sucking air out of dark room and pushing it into other rooms should create a positive pressure environment in the rooms and a negative on in the mud room so when I open doors it will push instead of suck.
I just haven’t done it cause I don’t know how to prevent cool air creating condensation as the cool air hits the inside warm air

Switching to coir will make things much faster and easier. No pasteurization and way less contamination prone.
The key is always clean spawn though, that’s like 80% of the process.

^ This right here.
OP, if you already lost 5 bins to trich...before the first flush...your spawn was likely dirty.
"spawn wasent crazy good"....could you please elaborate on that?
Did you inoculate all of your jars with spore syringes?
If so, I'd say most if not all of your tubs are likely to meet the same demise as those 5 trich tubs.
You may have a giant trich farm on your hands at the moment.

Yeah I very much hope your jars weren't inoculated with a syringe.

This post has a lot of misunderstandings.
There should not be a dark room. Shrooms like normal light cycles throughout the whole process.
The only time you need to worry about clean air is during inoculation. When you spawn into tubs you need to assume the air is dirty. At this point in the process there isnt any nutrition left to get contamed so thats why you dont have to worry about it.
You need to use coir, stop running hepa constantly, and read up.
