Lawn Finds, Help ID Pls
    #26961260 - 09/29/20 11:44 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Habitat:
Where does it grow?
North Georgia lawn

Gills:
Attached/annexed, multi-tiered, close, dark

Stem:
2-3” tall on taller one, about 1 3/4” on small one. Tall ones are hollow & have a definite dark ring, but short one seems solid & has no ring. All seem a bit more bulbous at base & tall ones darker at base.

Cap:
Golden, evidence of being viscid. Little one just under 3/4 inch and larger ones 2” or less. Seemed to break pretty easily.

Spore print color:
Dark

Bruising:
Not visible

Other information:
All 3 of these were found within 2 feet of one another in a nicer subdivision lawn.
The smaller mushroom is pictured alone in my hand & to the side of spore pics

Having never positively seen or identified an active with my own eyes before, I’m undeniably a newbie. However, I have been hunting about 5 days a week for the past month or so & have been able to identify a # of non-actives.  However, I am not confident at all about these. Not sure if these are Cubes or some type of Pans or Psathylla?

Any insights would be appreciated.

I also have some rusty red/orange ones that I have been trying to ID for 4 days...if yawl are up for it, I can post them in the comments.

HABITAT These were found in a natural mix of hardwood & pine tree roots, leaves & natural mulch on the banks of a creek, which frequently swells & rises in a densely forested area of north Georgia.
GILLS annexed & a rusty orange. Pretty close together.
STEM rusty orange. Tallest one 1 3/4” They seemed to solid, but are drying with the looks of twisted twine. No ring
CAP ABout 1” Mulch surroundings were sticking to the wetness of cap. Cap is rusty orange.
SPORE PRINT rusty orange.
Hopeful that they would be Gym Lutefolius, I brought 3 home to research. Now, I’m thinking they might be Cortinareous

Thank you. I thought not because of size, gills, dark ring & time of year, but I will continue to review the different types of agrocybes & pholiota. There are sooooo many that look so similar in pics, it is quite the process.  I sure do appreciate your time.

Could it be what was known as the Stropharia Cubensis?

No, Stropharia cubensis was the first name for Psilocybe cubensis, before it was discovered that it was a member of the genus Psilocybe

Its nearly impossible to tell in that condition, but maybe one of the inactive Gymnopilus species purely based on the amount of spores it dumped out

I've found those myself, the ones in the first two pictures. They look remarkably like cubensis but they never bruise blue. Always gets a double take from me. They can be a dead-on look-alike.

Wild P. Cubensis Grows From The Dung Of Most Grazing Animals. You Won't Find Cubes In Your Lawn, Unless You've Buried Cakes Or You Have Such Animals Walking Around.
