Super simple fermented oat grain spawn tek

Here's my oat grain spawn tek that I have been using with a lot of success and figured I would share with the community.
Ingredients: whole oats, priming sugar (optional), water
step 1: add your desired amount of whole oats to a bucket or whatever container you feel like using and give them a good couple rinses just to get some of the unwanted debris out
step 2: fill your bucket with water at least 2-3 inches above your grain
step 3: take about a tablespoon of priming sugar and add it to the water and stir. This is optional but it does help speed up fermentation
step 4: now this part may seem weird but after you have followed the first 3 steps, go ahead and spit some saliva into your bucket of water and grain. There are natural yeasts in your saliva that will kickstart the fermentation process
step 5: allow the grains to soak for about 18-24 hrs. I try to let mine soak as close to 24 as possible. After about 12 hrs or so you should start to notice some bubbling and a sour fermented smell. This is what we want as the fermentation process will allow the nutrients to be more digestible and bioavailable to the mycelium.
step 6: after your grains have soaked overnight, drain in a colander and let them sit there for a little while until all water has drained out. they don't have to be super dry just as long as they aren't dripping wet.
step 7: next, add your grain to jars or bags and pressure cook them at 15 psi for 2-2.5 hrs. Allow to cool overnight or until they are cool enough to touch give them a couple shakes and you're good to go!

I haven't compared it to other methods really but, in general it seems to get me some pretty fast colonization rates

Just your typical sour fermentation smell. Nothing that's going to stink up the whole room or anything.

This sort of claim needs to be proven. Got proof?

I smell a test coming. I'd run different batches out of the same LC and see what happens I mean if you run 6 tubs and keep everything the same except the soak and you get bigger flushes..... Yeah I'd say prove it you never know.

Sounds good in theory, and also gross, but let's see some tests.

To me, pre-digesting food for something that's meant to digest food wouldn't help.

well, looks like I'm gonna have to run some tests! I'll try to get this going in the next couple weeks and come back with updates!

ok, you got me. I don't have any proof that the fermentation process will actually make nutrients more bioavailable to mycelium specifically but, in general fermentation has been shown to increase bioavailability of amino acids and vitamins A & C in grains. So, in theory I would think this applies. Anyway, I was really just wanting to share a grain spawn tek that I haven't really seen anywhere and has had good results for me personally. You all have inspired me to run some tests though so keep on the lookout for updates!

First saw this method here. He goes in to detail about his oat prep process. Very similar.

I don't have proof but I have used a baddies grain that he fermentes as well and I'll say its defiantly better Not really that much faster but the mycelium does look healthier side by side
Ever way I just use a no soak method mostly and it works just as good
PS. He uses a different way of fermenting. I don't actually know his method. I'll try and find out.
