Thoughts on low O2 in semi-sealed grow rooms
    #26960499 - 09/29/20 02:56 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I was just reading a thread by a guy who was going to get 72 bins going and his concerns about the amount of CO2 put out (and O2 used) in a room that was reasonably sealed for minimizing contam.

Has anyone every tried using an O2 monitor connected to an O2 tank that would release O2 when CO2 levels were above a certain level?

I use a monitor that will turn on a heater or A/C depending on whether the temp in the room is above X or below Y. You can set the range to your liking. I have mine set so heat comes on if below 68 degrees and A/C comes on if above 78 degrees. They don't ping pong because the delta is set to 5 degrees. So something similar for O2 would be kinda cool.

Thoughts?

Adding oxygen does not bring down CO2 levels, so you'd need to get rid of some air anyway.  Seems easier just to have ventilation.  You don't need to seal a room to keep contamination out, you just need healthy spawn/substrates.

you would need something rather big to produce enough air..

I grow in a sealed basement, i had to pump minimal 600 rpm's of air through a hurricane fan to support anything more than about 40 tubs, give or take, in about a 400 sqft room.  I could't figure out why my yields where weak, then i bought a fairly expensive c02 meter thingy on amazon and seen that the air in the room was horrible, even though i did pull outside air in.

I have no idea what 02 will do; the requirement is freshair, not simply oxygen.  it may be better and cheaper to just compress outside air, maybe filter it??  then use that as air control..

Sorry that I am posting late to this, but it is so relevant to my situation.

I have been moving my tubs that have been fruiting fine, into a closet. I am struggling getting the closet to not be too drafty, yet have healthy air.

90 low profile tubs. About two inches of air around each tub. Really jammed in there. Everyone says CO2 meters are worthless.... But in my case, maybe I could benefit from having one? yes?

I currently have a fan kick on for 5 minutes every three hours, pushing fresh room air (huge room) into the top of the closet, with a vent at the bottom. I am hoping this will work better. Prior to that I had no ventilation. Prior to that I had 24/7 ventilation and no matter how low I set the fan, I would burn the corners of my substrate from just the gap in my fully closed lids.

thoughts?

also, what is this 600rpm you speak of, surly it isn't 600cfm.
