Critique my Fan-Plan for Fruiting Room?
    #26960403 - 09/29/20 02:14 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I'm getting really hung up on fan placement and arrangement. I know it's not really a huge deal, just keep CO2 levels low enough and don't exhaust directly into your bedroom. But here's the deal:

- fruiting building is an outdoor 30x10 shed partitioned into a 20x10 fruiting area and a 10x10 area that's doubling as an air incubation chamber and a place where I frequently mix carcinogenic, dirty particles like cement (non-negotiable unfortunately)
- since it's outdoors, I think positive pressure is the way to go, cuz gnats and no building envolope for simple heating/cooling
- I plan on having a 6" or 8" inline fan (I have one of each) with a furnace filter for my fresh air intake (I know filtering incoming air isn't stricly necassary, but remember that I'm trying to avoid blowing cement dust on my fruits)

What remains is to decide on a circulation plan, and whether or not I need an exhaust vent/flapper, exhaust fan, or just passive exhaust (aka nothing). I'm trying to seal the building the best I can to keep utility bills low and keep bugs out, so I don't know if I can rely on a passive system working well enough. I kind of like the idea of an exhaust fan so I can filter the air before releasing it to the public, but don't like the idea of running three fans in one room, and honestly don't really care for my neighbors all that much anyway (kidding!). For constant circulation, I was thinking about using the remaining inline fan and getting a perforated polytube sock to run along the cieling and running it constantly (but I've had trouble finding a small enough one).

Thanks for reading! Despite studying threads for days I'm still not sure. I know I'm overthinking it but just want to get it right the first time.

Since I'm here I may as well ask about the necassity of a floor drain, too. I've been putting this off because it seems annoyign to build, but I think I'd be really happy to be able to spray things off with a house when I clean the room. I plan on doing my shelving and layout just like the picture below (from Mossy Creek Mushrooms).

I was thinking I'd design my floor slope like this:

Where the blue sections are my shelves and they are all unsloped, flat areas. Sorry if it's the ugliest thing you've seen today. I wanted to keep it flat where the shelves are to make building the shelves simpler, and I wanted them to be wheeled for easy cleaning underneath too. I think I like what I've got here but wanted to throw it out there for some critique before doing it. I don't really want to run a drain down the entire center, and I think a 1-2 2' linear drains will be more than enough but I might have to help the water get in there sometimes when I clean (no biggie imo).
