True or False?

You come in the world a silverpiece and its entirely up to you, not your circumstances, whether you upgrade to a goldpiece or downgrade to a copperpiece.
Your circumstances can be dire and you can still come out an improved person, and your circumstances can be wonderful and you can still come out a worse person.

Stal, studies, and numerous ones at that, show gold pieces tend to stay gold, silver pieces tend to stay silver, and most people come out as copper pieces and stay that way for generations. None of this meritocracy bullshit, just cause a handful of people were either so gifted they couldn't help but rise, or they rose for dumb luck (also heavily supported by studies). Look em up, about generational poverty, lack of mobility in social hierarchy and earnings, pretty interesting stuff if you are into that.

This is quite correct, you can transmute metals, but the energy costs to do it is "impractical" is a pretty big understatement Psi

Too many variables, I agree with the premise but not with many of the implications people like to draw.
The fact is your circumstances (including the body you're born into, the family, the country, the time, and -perhaps most importantly- the economic circumstances,) often do far far more to determine the outcome of one's life than personal choices.
That said I believe for the individual it is best to focus on what YOU can do, whereas for society I think it is best to look at systems rather than blame individuals for their outcomes.

I tend to go through phases of being a goldpiece, and then falling back to being a tarnished silverpiece for a while.
I like the feeling of relativity it provides.

A gold and a copper piece are both worth the same practically, if not potentially, if they're buried under a layer ov dust. Yet it is not only the application, but also the circumstances and perception ov their synergy that are ultimately determinate ov value. It is one AND hir circumstances that matter but, yes, Trading Places was a good movie.

The periodic table, also known as the periodic table of elements, is a tabular display of the chemical elements, which are arranged by atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties. The structure of the table shows periodic trends. The seven rows of the table, called periods, generally have metals on the left and nonmetals on the right. The columns, called groups, contain elements with similar chemical behaviours. Six groups have accepted names as well as assigned numbers: for example, group 17 elements are the halogens; and group 18 are the noble gases. Also displayed are four simple rectangular areas or blocks associated with the filling of different atomic orbitals.
To the left, Group 10, Nickel, Palladium and Platinum share the same homologous relationship that Copper, Silver and Gold share, but, in their group.

Now would you say that the real change from silver to gold or copper comes not from the socioeconomic status of the individual, but rather the relationship of the individual to the world around him? Like karma, do good unto others, and all that cheesy crap? I've noticed that the universe has its ways of "repaying" for the good and the bad that an individual has done. I've also noticed that when basic human needs are met, the poorest people I know tend to be the happiest and the richest people tend to be less happy.

That's absolutely what I meant with it.
Physical wealth has nothing to do with it, other than it being woefully unethical to be a billionaire in a world of billions of poor.

A better person, sure, and agree from my admittedly limited knowledge of you Asante... but to say gold? What's the standard, if we are not talking material wealth. We then need to address the definitions of this analogy to properly label someone.
My own analogy, I do not harm others, work in an industry, that while is money making, also presents great value in terms of benefit to society. I work hark hard, help people when I can and mostly try to avoid my baser instincts(with some decent success). So, am I gold, silver or copper. If I started as filthy lowest level copper, does the amount of change affect the change i.e. if I used to be a real garbage human who hurt others, but have transformed to the previously indicated state, does that make me gold? Or silver?, or just shiny copper?
I guess what I am saying if we are to use these terms metaphorically, then we need to define them thusly, so we can have an accurate measure of an individual.

I came into this world a baby. I've leant a lot since then. If i was a silver piece then, i'd be pretty sad to say i'd lost value. With that in mind value is not definite. You may be a gold one day for your achievements, but if you become too cocky and fail to improve on your strengths you will inevitably fall to a lesser value. I strive to improve my personal self in some way no matter how little every single day.

I guess we as mear mortals dont get to decide the cut off point for if one is gold or not. Maybe its up to the individual and how they position their energy/relationships with every other aspect that is not their conscious.

Seems a little contradicting to say "we as mere mortals don't get to decide"... and then go on to say "maybe it's up to the individual".

If you touch Tellurium you develop a garlic/rotten leek smell to your breath that drives people away for days or weeks, by formation of the highly malodorous Te(CH3)2 in the body which is exhaled by the lungs.

So simple improvement makes on gold, and simple degen makes one copper. In that case I am forced to choose none of the above. The closest metaphorical metal I would pick is Mercury, or Gallium. I am changeable at a whim(mercurial for the thesaurus minded). Mercury is also poisonous, which at times I've been. Gallium is notable for being solid, but melting in the hand, again changeable givine the right forces applied.
