Found while mowing overgrown back yard. Has a odd texture (reminds me of chinese cooked pork lol) and smells kind of fishy. Not expecting active just really curious what it is. New to learning about mushrooms - so please excuse my lack of knowledge. Thanks for the help(and patience while I learn) Central Georgia.

Do oyster mushrooms grow from soil? Maybe there's some wood down under the ground that I couldn't see? Thanks for the prompt reply

I found a small one alongside a couple others. Figured a pic of habitat would be good to post.

Hmm, I was not expecting a central stipe... maybe Lyophyllum? Can you take a picture of how the gills connect to the stipe?

Cuphophyllus virginneus, Cuphophyllus colemannianus, Hygrocybe pratensis maybe? Definitely would help to see gill attachment.

Tell us about the texture. Is it slimy? Waxy? Sticky? Any chance you can take a spore print?
Also break the cap and stem if you still have it. And then describe that. Haha.
Edit: leaning towards Rhodocollybia.

Id describe the texture as a combo of rubbery and waxy. Attempted to do spore print and got a faint almost tan/peach color. I do not have the original samples to break apart for a photo but there's plenty in the back yard - so I'll be sure to get more photos tomorrow! Thanks for helping me to figure this thing out!

Still not confident but worth a bump to see if anyone else has some input.

Rhodocollybia seems plausible

Oh man, haven't thought about rhodocollybia in a while. I wonder whatever happened to development on the ones with a salvia analogue

You're thinking of Rhodocollybia maculata, they're still out there

Ive looked at a lot of images of the one you suggested and none seem to match what I have in my yard. I never did get around to taking more photos - but will try to do so tomorrow. Most of them are silver dollar sized and one was the size of my palm. Its just such an odd mushroom.

Likely, I'd say.
OP, did you smell them?
