Heat affect on substrate
    #26959158 - 09/28/20 05:27 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

My substrate was left in heat for a day is it ruined? How does temperature affect substrate and its use for mushroom cultivation? If I let it cool down at room temperature is it fine to use?

Heat means bacteria has an easier time growing.

Unless we are talking extreme temps, I’m sure length of exposure is worse than the degree of heat.

Smell it.  If it still smells good, it’s probably fine.

I believe it depends on the substrate. If we're talking coir/verm, it should be fine. I've read people leaving that out sealed in a bucket for much longer than a day.

If it's manure, I'd re-pasteurize.

We need more details. Is it pasteurized substrate? Did you add spawn yet? What kind of heat was it exposed to? The more you tell us the more we can tell you
