yes it will. it is essential to have a tight fiting pot lid when steaming your jars or else the process means nothing but crap.

If it gets hot enough it doesn't matter if the lid is tight. It's all about getting the substrate and jars hot enough to kill the shit in it.

the bottom half of the jar was definitely hot enough as it was submerged in boiling water, and i'd guess that since a lot of steam billowed out when i took the lid off, a lot more than was trickling out when it was on loosely, i think i'll just wait and see instead of trying to find a bigger jar and doin it again.
