'Sorry means it's not going to happen again'

Somebody just told me this. I thought it was an interesting statement; to me, that seems highly unrealistic.
Can you share your thoughts on this please gang?
What does sorry mean to you?
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Sorry, to me, means that a person realizes they made a mistake (or whatever it may be) and are showing someone that they know they screwed up. It shows that you have regret for past actions. That doesn’t mean that someone couldn’t make the same mistake in the exact same way, but I do think it implies that youll try not to make the same mistake again.

I don't think I agree, really.
First of all, there's the more pedantic point that I don't always use the word "sorry" in the context of an apology. Sometimes, saying "sorry" means that you empathize with someone. "I'm sorry your dog died" isn't an apology, it's an expression of empathy (or, at least, sympathy).
On the less-pedantic side of things, I don't think apologizing to someone implies any sort of guarantee that whatever you're apologizing for won't happen again. I think we apologize for things when we recognize that we did something wrong, but that doesn't mean that we necessarily have an intention of changing our behavior after the fact.
If there's any way that "Sorry means it's not going to happen again" resonates with me, it's this: when we apologize for things, I think most of us hope that we will be forgiven for our actions. However, forgiveness isn't given out as easily as an apology (if it ever is at all), and I think it's much easier to forgive someone who made a one-time mistake and apologized than it is to forgive someone who makes the same mistake over and over again and apologizes every time. Maybe the idea behind the claim is that the actions that come after your apology are the actions that give that apology substance.

Yeah I’ll agree with that. I guess I’m just saying that’s how it is for me. To some people “sorry” doesn’t really mean shit besides “I got caught so I’ll say I’m sorry”. I’m sure it has a litany of meanings when it comes to the population as a whole.

The word "sorry" means nothing to me anymore.
Only sorry I accept is changed behavior/situations they have remorse over.

I’m about the same way at this point. People use sorry too freely and tend to think it just fixes a problem when 99% of the time it doesn’t.

Sounds like something a control freak would say. People who use things like extreme jealousy and guilt to obtain their "power" over other people.
