I'm so disappointed by my photos this year.they look ok, but I'm just personally at a loss for how they look.

I hear ya, must be frustrating since you’re used to taking pictures with a really decent camera. Although, better to work with that lower quality than nada. Hopefully you’re able to get your hands on a camera soon man. Been thinking about scouting out my whole town for possible baeo/stuntzii locations. I’ve heard graded runoffs are good for stuntzii does that hold some truth? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Just one for today. Been busy with work lately. Still a bit dry in my area, but a few guys I work with have made some good finds lately

I'll respond to that in a little bit once I'm home.

I'm thankful that my works and pictures helped you out, and although I get that same sentiment a good amount, I'm still humbled each time I get to read those words. So thank you for the kind hearted reply, it does mean a lot to me.

Ok, now that I have the ability to focus on your question I hope to be able to answer your question thoroughly and as in depth as possible.
Stuntzii and Baeocystis were the two first active species I ever found, so although I've had other amazing experiences over these past 11 years, they hold a special place in my heart that will never be overtaken.
Per Stuntzii, they are a quite variable species as habitat goes. My best hunting grounds for them has always been newer lawns or grass areas in housing developments/parks/schools or anything else that fits the bill. I've noticed that after about 5-7years from construction date they tend to fizzle out, but this obviously is not a red line in the sand or an end all definitive rule, just my personal observations. I haven't ever found this species in a "natural" environment, always in areas with human disturbance.
As for them growing in mulch/soil, I've only had a few different encounters of this happening, but it does happen, as others besides myself find Stuntzii in mulch and good topsoil fairly often. In my personal opinion, your best bet would be to use google earth or some similar application to track down newly constructed housing developments in your area and go do some ground work.
Now the Baeos. My experiences with this species is very similar, almost identical in habitat and locations as Stuntzii, so instead of scrawling down a bunch of info that will repeat, I'll just say to refer to the same habitat you would find Stuntzii.
As for the mulch habitat, it's not the same as what you would find Cyanescens in, at least in my experience. It's more the nice topsoil&mulch mix you find common in flower beds around parking lots and department stores, churches, ect. I'll post some previous years finds to kinda show you what I mean. It's basically a 3 way mix of topsoil/compost, sand, and quite fine woodchips/bark.
I hope this info helps anyone with the same question, or is just looking for some insight, but more importantly, i hope it answered your question enough.
Again, photos are not from this year, just for reference

Stuntzii in mulch/soil

Straight from native soil/clay

I wish fuckers wouldn't have flagged "Earthquake Opossum's" youtube account, resulting in all of the videos from thos last few Stuntzii shots getting deleted.
Anyway, that's all for now, and hope that info helps some people.

Holy crap man thanks so much for taking the time to write that information out. I really do appreciate it and don’t take that for granted. Gonna take all of that golden info into account and will have an awesome time researching locations and putting in the foot work. Awesome habitat and specimen photos as well, killer shots. Them cyans are beauties too, neat find.🤙

Definitely found my first lobster mushrooms today! Was checking out a chanterelle spot that me and my bro scoped out last week. It was right off a trail and you had to duck down and army crawl under some brush in order to get into the area. They were right when we had to start crawling. Thank God I had a gut feeling in the first place that there would be some good edibles there, because it’s a beautiful chanterelle spot and turned out to be my first lobster find. You have definitely been a huge help with habitat and identifying these two species thanks mate. They looked pretty solid to me but I definitely want your opinion. Here are some pictures in habitat and then after I cleaned them off with a small soft brush. I definitely didn’t get all the dirt off them but most of it, I plan on cutting them up tomorrow and cleaning them more thorough, making sure there is no rot and what not as well. I’m stoked nonetheless honestly.

Wowow, came across this thread and am so appreciative to see that awesome habitat info for stuntzii and baeos. I'm hunting out in Whatcom too and have just focused on cyans for the past few years, and this year I've been trying to expand my active species IDs. I hadn't found much of anything helpful online for these, this is amazing!

Looking good. You can tell if the are a bit old because the flesh begins to turn a slight grey color and they really start smelling like seafood. But they look good and bug free, which doesnt happen often because of how they grow so close to, or even underneath the ground.

More than happy to help. You can use Google earth pro and view historical images, which helps track down how old certain areas are. This helps when looking for newer gas and mulch areas. Best of luck out there and happy hunting.

Thanks man! Super happy to hear that they are in good condition. One of them legitimately was like growing upside down.I’m guessing somehow it got slowly overturned by another of its buddies and there was hella mycelium growing from the cap. Cut off the mycelium on the cap and planted it right there. Didn’t realize how damn heavy and huge they are lol.

They are really tasty. Went simple with a small amount for the first time trying. Olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder. Amazing texture and taste was very good. Ended up adding the chanterelles in the mix as well as some shrimp and beef hot dogs cut up. Louisiana hot sauce and some old bay and I was in heaven. Looking forward to experimenting with the rest I have cut up and cleaned. How long will these stay good to eat in the fridge? I definitely will end up dehydrating some for future use but just curious. Happy hunting y’all hope ya have a solid weekend.

Few photos from over the weekend. Hope everyone enjoyed it. If you didn't know, this was the first time since the 1940's that there was a full, blue moon on Halloween.
Happy hunting

I love those dark blue caps man, beautiful patch. I’ve yet to go night hunting yet, although I’m sure it’s super fun. Here’s my humble haul for the day.
Was curious when you are out hunting and you see a bunch of chanterelle pins in an area how long do you usually come back to pick them mature? I’m guessing depending on rainfall it may vary?
Also, I found one solo fruit that was quite small. It’s stem was chomped into by something and the gills were half way munched away. For some reason I have a feeling it may be something other than a cyanescen. Could this possibly be allenii? Or am I trippin. Either way I’m praying I can get a decent half print out of it to be able to study later when I obtain a microscope. Sorry the habitat picture is pretty bad. The best pictures I have are it picked. There was a lot of small grass and twigs to get outta the shot. Threw that stem butt into a cyan pot I have going but may have to dig it out if this turns out to be something different. For now it’s safe🤙

I’m just gonna assume that it was an eaten up not so mature cyanescen. Wasn’t able to print it anyways. Hey Neo, I was curious how you go about selling your chanterelles and other edible mushrooms to restaurants? Do you have to jump through a few hoops like getting certain permits and show proof to said clients or are some people usually more lax about buying them under the table? Thanks in advance. I by no means am looking to get rich or anything just think it would be a cool option to be able to provide some foraged goods for chefs or at a farmers market. Or even be able to trade at said locations would be rad.
